I would say keep struggling through it. It took about 2 weeks for my nipple pain to subside. If you start pumping to feed, you will be caught in this vicious cycle of always having to pump. Just ask some of the other exclusive pumpers around here.
Not horrible. However, I'd give it some more time before giving up on nursing . . . it can take a while (yes, more than a couple of weeks) to get used to everything!
It will be painful for a while. Most people say it is a lot easier after 6 weeks. I had pain until 3 months.
I pumped and fed DS a bottle for the first 7 weeks b/c of latch issues. IMO it was a HUGE pain. Luckily he finally started latching b/c I don't know if I would still be BFing if I had to pump. It shouldn't hurt to try it if you want, but it is a lot more work.
I agree with the pp's- try not to pump and bottle feed until bf is fully established (we waited 5 weeks). EP is very time consuming!
It may take a week or two for your nips to "toughen up". Keep using the lanolin. Keep an eye on her latch. In a week or two if it isn't better, call your lactation consultant (you can use the hospital one) and seek more advice!

This! I had days where I cried or had to grip DH's hand while BFing. It got better, and now dd and I both enjoy the bonding time. I am back to work now, and I hate pumping.
Re: Breastfeeding Question
It is more common than you think. There are a lot of EP'ers here, exclusive pumpers. It is a LOT of work.
Can you meet with a lactation consultant and have her latch and suck reflex checked?
