Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Swimming...when?

We are going to be at a hotel with an indoor pool for the 4th and wanted to take dd in the pool for 15-20 minutes. Of course I'm getting mixed reviews. My pedi said not until a year old, which seems extreme to me. Some infant swim classes start at 3 months old!! I was planning on giving her a bath as soon as we got out.

When did you take your lo in the pool, for how long?

Thanks!

Re: Swimming...when?

  • We started taking DS at 10w.  I told our pedi about it and she told me to make sure I keep him protected from the sun (she even OK'd putting sunscreen on him).  I wish I knew how to upload pics off my phone because DS loved it.

  • My pedi said two months was fine, as long as the pool just hadn't been shocked. We have a pool and date D in all the time and he loves it!
  • My pedi said it was fine as long as we bathed her to get all the pool chemicals off her skin as soon as possible.  R's first pool experience was at 3 mo.  She has also been to the lake and the beach.  Never a problem.
  • DS went in a pool and lake last week.

  • We took DD to the pool about 3 weeks ago.  We only go for about 15 - 20 min at a time.  Pedi said it was fine.  We give her a bath as soon as we get home to wash all the chlorine and chemicals off.  She loves swimming.

  • Pedi said it was fine for her to go in our pool at our 2 month appt. She did say no public pools until at least 6 months.
  • pedi said we could take dd in the pool no prob. just to make sure she was protected from the sun. we were going to take her swimming on the 4th at my parents house but it's been raining for days and i think the water may be too cool.
