drinking bottles laying down flat?

ive always heard that you shouldnt let a baby have juice or a bottle while theyre lying flat. is this true? im tempted sometimes to let ds have a bottle lying down, but this 'rule' always comes to mind

Re: drinking bottles laying down flat?

  • It can cause ear infections
  • Loading the player...
  • They say not to b/c of ear infections and if you give juice or milk it will sit on their teeth and they can get "bottle rot"....however I give my son his bottle which he feeds himself and lay him down right at the end and then switch it out to a bottle with only 2 ounces of water in it and he falls asleep with in minutes! I take the bottle away once he's asleep...probably not the best but it works like a charm and their is no fussing to fall asleep!!! People can judge but it works for us :)
  • DS likes to feed himself and often lies down flat with the bottle.  He has never had an ear infection.
  • I heard the ear infection thing as well.  It's the only time DS will hold his own bottle but he's already had one ear infection (not from that) so I don't want to risk it.  He likes us holding the bottle.
