I was reading tmz (because it's the new crack) and they had a youtube clip of a tribute they did to MJ at the BET awards.  They had Jamie Foxx and some guy I didn't recognize Embarrassed sing "I'll Be There" it was beautiful. Just them and the piano.

During the song they had a photo montage behind them on the screen.  It started with pictures of him really young (Jackson 5 days) and got a little older maybe to his 20s but that as it.  I had figured they'd show pics that spanned his entire life/career but they stopped before his skin started getting whiter.  I don't understand why.

    Because the show was for black artists?  And after his 20's he was not really black?

    I get that but if he really had vitiligo like he claimed he did it wouldn't be his fault he wasn't "black" anymore.

    They air Mariah Carey videos and she has an interracial heritage.

    Because after that he started becoming the farce of his previous self through plastic surgery and that isn't the image they want people to pay tribute to. They wanted to remember him in his glory days before he fell apart.

    Just my guess.

    The other guy was Ne-Yo. During the whole show it seemed geared towards Jamie Foxx. They did seem to feature more Jackson 5 songs verus MJ as a solo artist. I don't think it had to do with the surgeries or his lighter skin. In his last few years on earth MJ seemed to have surrounded himself with other black people. Perhaps they didn't want to deal with any controversy that happened after that time.

    That is a low blow.  He is still African American/black.   He had health issues, which were not his fault.

    I did like some of his post crazy music too.

    I know he is still African American. I was just guessing why BET might not have shown him in his later years. 

    I understand the health issues that changed his skin color, but it seemed like he was not comfortable with his ethnicity given his nose jobs and other plastic surgeries that left him with a more caucasian look.

    Because that was when he was in his prime and a true icon?  Very highly doubt it had anything to do with his skin color.  They play justin timberlake on BET!
