Luckily our travel system came with an extra one. If it hadn't, I would have still purchased one, just because we are constantly going between mine & DH's cars...it would be a pain to take the whole thing out. JMO though...

Depends on how much LO will be in both cars. We knew that DD was going to be in my car 75% of the time so we just bought a convertible car seat for DH's car. That way she could grow with it and we wouldn't have to waste the money on an additional base.
We are getting one. All of my friends with kids say it is really worth it. Especially in rain/snow easy to have instead of switching the thing back and forth a couple times.

We are probably going to buy an extra one. It's $75 for the one to go with our system and I thought it was kinda pricey but I figure with an infant changing the base between vehicles is just another thing that I would have to worry about and the $75 seemed like a steal.
We registered for one and received it. I am sure it will come in handy in DH's car or my mother's car. She will be watching our son once a week, so it will be a pain to take the car seat base in and out of mine once a week.

Same here...baby will be in my car most of the time so we are planning on buying a convertible for DH's car.
If your baby is going to be in the other car more than just every so often, I would definitely get another base. Once you have that base secured in there, you're not going to want to have to take it out and put it back in. Some of them can be a pain to install.
We have the extra one for H's car, we use his car on the weekends and didn't want to have to keep changing it. We did get it as a gift. When we registered for it H didn't think it was needed, then by the end of registering he wanted an extra base for the convertible haha which doesn't come with one.
We may be getting a 2nd infant seat and base from a friend, so I'm not sure yet. If we don't get it, then I will probably get another base for DH's car.
I bought an extra base last week. Its definitely worth it in my opinion. We constantly go between mine & DH's cars. It would be a pain to take the whole thing out every time. We also thought what happens when I have to go back to work and DH drops LO off at daycare and I pick her up. So we definitely need two bases!
We bought an extra one because I'm not moving that thing back and forth! What a pain! I just put it in the car yesterday. Lock this, tighten that.. no thanks! Plus I figure the more our family grows we'll use it.
We are definitely doing it. For convenience mostly so that we don't ahve to worry about switching them back and forth. This way, we can just use the carseat. I registered for two and have received one.
We got another one. We will probably be split fairly evenly between both cars, so it made more sense. I think my mom will also be getting one, since she will help out watching the baby when I am back at work.
I think we are getting one. Even if we don't keep it in DH's truck all the time, I figure it will be good to have an extra for my mom or sisters' cars if they decide to watch LO.
We received our extra base as a shower gift but, yes, even if we hadn't, I definitely wouldn't mind spending an extra $40 for such a convenience. DH & I plan on alternating days to pick up the LO from daycare so it will come in handy.

Most car seats can be buckled into the car directly. The base is for the convenience of just snapping it into the base which is already buckled. Saves the hassle of having to buckle/unbuckle the car seat itself in every time. You really don't NEED a base for most car seats, its a convenience issue.
We leave the base attached in my car and just buckle the car seat in by itself if we need to take another car instead.

LOL! No, $75 for something you don't truly need is called a rip-off, not a steal.
We have one and really could have done without it. Your carrier can be put in the car without the base - its generally very easy to do. If you get it for a gift, great, but not worth the money out of pocket.
we bought 2 extras on e-bay, brand new for 1/2 the price of BRU. One for MIL she is keeping LO and one for DH. I know you can put it in with the seatbelt but it is just easier this way.
We got two extras... one for Daddy and one for my mom, who is watching LO when we are at work. We know that there will be days that I will pick her up from being with my mom, and days that he will have to.
If it weren't going to be a daily thing, I'm not sure that we would have done it. Also, we registered for both of the extra ones and got them, so we didn't have to pay for them.
Maybe start out without it and see how much you're moving the carrier around. If it's that frequent and seems like it'll be worth it, then I'd get it. Otherwise, maybe you can do without?
The baby will be in my car most of the time for the first 4 months. So we just purchased a convertable for DH's car to use once we get to the point that she will be in both cars.
