1st Trimester

is anyone else always thirsty?

Because I am!  I have to have a bottle of water with me at all times.  I keep a bottle by the bed, and am waking up every 1-2 hours for a drink.  I was worried about gestational diabetes (that's one of the signs), but read that if that's going to happen, it's generally not until around week 20.  Is anyone else parched?

I was really thirst through weeks 5-6 but it has settled down.  BTW my DH and I also got married on 5/9/09 and had a productive honeymoon.

  • Yes! I woke up last night with my mouth completely dry. Had to go get water. Going to take a cup up tonight because that was the second time it happened this week.

I'm about 5 weeks along and feel like a fish, so you are definitely not alone.
  • I'm always thirsty but can't drink water. ?:( ?Some sort of weird pregnancy aversion...

  • That would be me. I just got done telling DH water doesn't even quench my thirst right now!!
  • Yes! It was more at night before (dry mouth in the middle of the night), but now it's more during the day that I always feel thirsty.

I've read that you should try to drink drinks with electrolites, like gatorade and maybe lemonade or such, as opposed to just plain water (but don't quote me on that!). I *think* it helps keep you more hydrated (and less thirsty). Anyone else heard that?

  • Thank you to everyone!  So good to know I'm not alone.  I've been switching between water w/ lemon, ginger ale, and herbal tea.  I'll try adding gatorade and see if that helps- I'll let you know if that helps!

  • ohh I am glad to hear everyone else is super thirsty too! I am allllll the time. I wonder what causes that?
  • This was one of the first 'symptoms' that made me think something was up... at about 4 weeks, all of a sudden I got up EVERY night to use the bathroom and I would get up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water.
  • Yes! Maybe because we pee all the time?
  • I to am thirsty all of the time and water doesn't seem to satisfy my thirst.  I had a glucose test at 6 weeks and everything was just fine.  What has helped me quench my thirst is watermelon, cantelope and honeydew.

  • I've had a couple of symptoms so far but this is the most noticeable.  I'm only 4 weeks but it has to be a symptom.
