My basement flooded!

So, my house didn't survive the storm!  I got up at 7 this morning to get ready for work and I was pumping...and as I'm sitting there, I start thinking "I hope the basement is ok."  So I go walk down the stairs and step on to the floor and "squish"!  There was water throughout the entire basement.  It wasn't enough that there was standing water or anything, but you could tell it was everywhere.

I had to go to work, so luckily both my parents came over to help DH.  The good thing is that it is going to be covered by insurance.  We think it came in through a window because the storm drain outside backed up.  It wasn't the sump pump...but our insurance agent is a friend of my dad's and he was able to file the claim as a sump pump failure.   So it's going to be covered.

A cleaning company is going to come tomorrow to help get it dried out...we've already ripped up the carpet and pad.  So it's been a fun day around here!  Hope everyone else's houses are okay!

    We monitored our sump pump last night.  It was making a crazy noise because of the amount of water that was coming through.  There is over 4 inches of new water in DD's pool that was empty prior to the storm...crazy!  My feeling is I would much rather have water in the house than to be one of the unlucky ones dealing with a lightning strike.  We had several really close hits.  I hope you get things cleaned up quickly.  I know how much it stinks to have water in the basement.  It's good to have people willing to help out when things like that happen, and I am glad your home is OK otherwise!

    I can commiserate this week. Our basement flooded this week as well but due to a glitch in the washing machine. What a pain in the as*!

    I'm sorry you're going through it too! Good luck getting everything dried up!
