strep test and 1st internal in 1 hour......

sorry if this is a lame question.......but what should i expect? I know it will be like a normal pap, but i have heard it is a little painful. should i expect to be dialated at all? fill me in those of you who have been there already! TIA! oh and Happy Friday!

    The test doesnt hurt as bad as the internal does.  It is not so much painful as it is uncomfortable.  There was just a lot of pressure for me.  As far as being dialated everyone is very different I was dialated 1 cm and 50% efaced but I was the same when I went again this week.

    I agree with the above poster, the strep test isn't too bad, it's similar to a pap.  But be aware- they not only swab your cervix/vagina but they also swab your bum too!  They don't really go IN, it's more just the outside, but it can still catch you way off guard if you're not expecting it LOL.  The internal can be very uncomfortable, borderline painful, I think it can depend on how dilated you are and how hard the doctor pushes, really.  And you will most likely spot blood and/or bloody mucus for a little bit after the exam, which is normal.  As for the dilation, yeah everyone is different.  Here's my personal experience:  I was fingertip to 1 cm at 36 weeks.  I had a false alarm hospital trip at exactly 38 weeks and was still only 1 cm.  3 days later, at my next appt, I was 3 cms dilated.  Anyway, good luck!

    The strep test was nothing.  The internal didn't hurt, just mildly uncomfortable.  I had my first internal around the same time as you and I was dilated 1cm...and still am.
