Talk to me about swim diapers

I know nothing and we're hoping to take Dane for his first swim this weekend.

The reusable diapers appeal to me for the green factor, but do they really hold everything in?

What brands do you like?

Any other tips?

Re: Talk to me about swim diapers

  • We only used the reusable ones a long time ago and she was only in the water for a couple minutes.

We got the Huggies little swimmers, they worked well.  It is quite gross when they poop in them though....

  • We just use the Little Swimmers. They work well, as far as I know nothing is getting out.

  • swim diapers are really only meant to hold in poops. the reusable ones do this just fine.

I've actually read that most public pools prefer that reusables are used instead of disposables.

  • I have only used huggies with Z. I wish I had known about the eco ones when he was smaller! And to be honest when I have forgotten them, I just throw him in there with the kirklands, they get all full, its pretty funny. But supposedly the swim ones just keep poop out, and don't get all huge like the regulars!
  • My friend learned about swim diapers the hard way, they only hold in poop!  She dressed her LO in swim diapers before driving to the lake (only a few minutes) and he wet all over the car seat!

We use a Flap Happy brand swim diaper/trunk and it works great.  It's just one piece too, which is nice.

Ditto. We have and have used both disposable and reusable, the resusable are actually better at holding things in. All three of the pools we take M to require a disposable dipaer covered by a reusable diaper. We've tried a couple different reusable and my favorites are these from iplay: https://www.bambinomountain.com/IP223.html

  • Pele's used the same IPlay one's for two summers now.  They don't technically "hold" anything. But it will prevent poo from floating in the pool.  We've never had a "solid" accident.
