Re: 1st IUI with clomid & HCG ?'s

  • hi MrsNYC, I just wanted to wish you good luck, I didn't have a HCG shot with my first medicated IUI, so I don't have any input on that.  Hope you are doing well.

  • i had my hcg shot at my re's office. a nurse stuck it in my bum. it didn't hurt very much. i had some soreness at the injection site for a couple days after.

the clomid made me a bit loopy and incredibly hot at random times. i would get very flushed and start sweating like a pig, it was attractive.

  • It really just helps with timing.  Once your follicles are ready to "pop" the shot is given and you ovulate almost exactly 36 hours after.  This allows the best possible timing for sex or IUI.

Its usually given in the arm, thigh or stomach.  Its usually a little sore for a few days but nothing major at all.  No need to worry about it :)

  • thanks chiquitas!

what does the HCG do though?

  • it tells your follies it's time to head down the fallopian tubes.

  • Hi! GL on your first IUI cycle! they usually use ovidrel for IUIs. I took it twice very very easy and subcutaneous. It goes in your stomach. It doesn't hurt. GL!
  • gotcha, thanks shipoops!

everytime, I see your new name I think "shepoops", lol cracks me up everytime.

  • I had no s/e with clomid on 50mg is the highest dose I went. I gave myself the HCG shot which was in the stomach. No pain but the injection site showed a dime size red spot afterwards. The HCG shot releases all eggs that is why your at risk for multiples. I did get pregnant on clomid alone without HCG (& with it) & only the most mature egg is released whereas with the 'trigger' all eggs are. GL!
  • I think that, before ovulation, HCG acts just like LH, so it makes you ovulate. And, like pp said, it helps ensure all of our mature follies release their eggs, and helps with timing. I had Ovidrel (HCG) shot, which is injected into the stomach. MH did it once and my RE's office did it the other two times. It really doesn't hurt, which is cool. The only s/e I noticed from it was bloat. Clomid made me really tired and a little naseated in the afternoons (even though I took it before bed). Good luck!

  • The shot isn't as scary as it may appear.  There is a video online that helps gives instructions on how to administer.  DH administers it for me.  It doesn't hurt.  At times, I may feel a bit of soreness in that area for about 6 hrs... but only if something hits the area, like my desk.  LOL

    Best of luck to you!

  • I have used ovidrel 5 times and each time the nurse has done it.  Very easy.  She just pinches my stomach and gives the shot.  No pain or side effects. I am a little nervous this month because DH will have to give it to me.  Hopefully it will be as easy as the follistim.  Good luck this cycle! I hope it does the trick!!!
