Pregnant after a Loss

NBR: Swimming lessons..VENT

I'm not sure if this is an Indiana thing or what but I really want to get DD into lessons because of us having boats and things like that, and it has been a challenge to find an anywhere near me...I am not expecting her to swim laps around me I just want her to know that she can float and not panic in the water...what a nightmare this has turned into..

Vent over

  • I understand..I'll be getting my children into swim lessons as early as possible. Are all of the classes full or you can't just find someone to offer them?

  • What part of Indiana do you live in?  I used to work for a company who installed swimming pools in the Indianapolis area, and I could give you their number to see if they have anyone to refer you to.  Swim lessons are so important.  Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under 4.  Also, try the website www.safer3.org it is all about drowning prevention.  HTH!

The classes that I have found last for three days and for her age group they want to teach her to blow bubbles in the water...she does that in the bath tub, then I found another place that offers lessons still this summer, but they wont take her because she isn't 5..

Thanks...I am 2 hours from Indy..in the middle of nowhere...and let me tell you its a joke to find anything...I'm on the mission now to find someone to do private lessons, because I'm at a loss

  • I was a lifeguard all through HS and College and even gradschool and I taught tots.  I would teach the mommy and me classes and started lessons at 3 years of age, I had some of my kids swimming freestyle at 3.  Check you local pools, or a YMCA near you.

  • You might try calling your local red cross. They offer lifeguard training and would maybe have a list of certified lifeguards that give private lessons.  Good luck!
