This is our crib: https://www.pali-design.com/index.php?path=products&template=products_by_serie§ion=products&subsection=products_by_serie&page=tuscan&product_serie_id=26
The nature of the design is that it has a high solid wood top before the bars. The bumper has ties on the top and bottom of the bumper. I can tie the bottom ties of the bumper to the bars, but I have nowhere to tie the ties that are on top of the bumper. I'm concerned that the bumper isn't very secure. The mattress is currently at the highest point on the crib. We could adjust it down one level to solve the problem, but then it would make picking up a baby while recovering from a C/S that much more difficult. Though, that may be our only solution save nixing the bumper all together.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this problem?
PS-I know the debate over bumpers, and I'd rather not get into that discussion in this post. TIA.
Re: Need Advice on Troublesome Bumper and Crib Design
I'm having a problem with mine too. I've resigned myself to the fact that I don't need the bumper (I too know the debate) and might not use it if I can't come up with a safe solution.
My friend told me I should just tuck the bottom tie into the mattress and that's secure enough, but I'm just not sure I feel comfortable doing that. Might ask my grandmom to make some throw pillows (for the glider) out of the bumper so it's not totally wasted.
Hope you get some helpful replies!
Ditto.
Also, the lowest mattress setting might not be as low as you think.
We ended up deciding against the bumper for a number of reasons, this being one of them. Plus, I tried to change the sheet with the bumper on and it was literally impossible. I couldn't get the sheet off.
We ended up using the bumper as a window valance. I was sad to make this decision because I really liked the bumper in the crib (yes, despite the controversy).
This exactly.
If you don't mind spending a little more $ you might take it to a seamstress and have them remove the ties and attach a single set on the middle outside of the bumper that would tie at the top of the bars, just below the solid wood part. A lot of dry cleaners offer simple tailoring and this would be a simple enough job they should be able to do it pretty inexpensively.
Sort of like this:
