15 month appt was today. The dr asked me about his speech. I told him that he's said some things that we think may be words but we're not sure. He does really have any words yet. He said he wanted to send him for a speech eval. He said that it's most likely nothing but if he does need speech therapy it's best to get the ball rolling now. so I'll be calling tomorrow to set up a speech eval at the local hospital(that's where he wants us to go)
Since he is so little, how do they test him? I'm assuming part of the eval will be a parent interview. And a hearing test. What tests will the SLP use to evaluate him?
Re: ds needs a speech eval
DS only has a few words and only us and the grandparents really understand him.
One of my friends experienced the same thing with her daughter at her 18 month appt. She didn't take her in, knowing she just did some things late and that when she did them she was great. At her 2 year appt (different pedi due to insurance change) the pedi said she was talking great for a 2 year old. When she mentioned the previous appt, the pedi some docs are just trigger happy when it comes to speech evals.
