Need a simple recipe to take to a party. Help....

I"m sooo not a cook and I have a bar b que bday party to go to this weekend.  I have to take a dish that feeds 20 people.   I was told something cold would be good since we will be outside, or a dessert would be good too.  They will be doing fajitas as a main dish, and i believe they will be doing some dips.  Not sure what everyone else is bringing.

I posted this on the cooking boards but didn't get many responses, so wondering if you can all help.  Tia

  • The first things that come to mind with fajitas are:  guacamole, refried beans, and rice.

Dessert wise,  I'd make sopapilla cheesecake.  Mmmmm

  • Loading the player...
  • I would do guacamole.  It is super easy to make and usually goes really well at parties.
  • I think guacamole right now would be pretty expensive, the small avocados are a bit over a dollar. and to feed 20 peeps I would need alot.

Any got any good summer recipes?

  • You could make a 7 layer dip or taco dip! Super easy, goes with fajitas and CHEAP! 1lb ground beef, can of refried beans, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream and cheese.
  • I have some super easy recipes if you are interested.  One is a cheese ball...I also have a dessert with pretzels, rollos, and nuts that is SUPER easy.  Taco dip and buffalo chicken dip are also other faves that are easy.  I also have a dessert recipe with oreos and cream cheese that is OUT OF THIS world and SO good.

Ooh, 7 layer dip is always a hit!

  • Definitely taco dip........even easier is one with Hormel meat chili, cream cheese, shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes......
  • Can someone give me the step by step recipe.  I"m a bit embarrassed but the truth is I have never done this before.  thanks  Embarrassed
  • Go to allrecipes.com and do a search by type of food. it is a great website that people who have made the recipe can rate it so you know how ggod it was. Search for a mexican corn dip. Sorry I do not have the recipe or I would give it to you. it has can corn and sour cream. very easy and fast. no cooking just mixing. If that does not work I have made pasta salad from the box and added some chopped up veggie. You can do that on your own too. Cook the pasta anykind will work(I use the corkscrew kind) let it cool then add what ever veggie you like. mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, olives, broccoli. then add your favorite italian salad dressing to cover. I always save some dressing to put on before searving because the pasta will soak it up. this is not that expensive and easy you can cook the pasta and chop the night before. good luck and sorry I rambled.
