s/o what to get rid of - do you have cable?

Just curious - I know I'm not the only one without, but I want scientific poll results...  ;)[Poll]

Re: s/o what to get rid of - do you have cable?

  • i voted yes, but we are just waiting till our current contract runs out at the end of this year.  we hardly ever have the TV on now that DD is here, but it was such a good package deal that it would actually cost us MORE to cancel the TV since we still want the phone/internet.  crazy cable companies.

  • We got a year of the most basic package for free with our HSI, so we have it for that.
  • I will not get rid of my cable and DVR until we are homeless. ?tyvm

tip for when you're living on the streets - if you find an electronics store to squat in front of, some of them have TV's with cable on them inside.  Might be an option for homeless cable viewing.  ;)

  • We got rid of our's, as we are usually doing other things and never had the TV on. We do have netflix. We don't miss the TV at all...and a lot of shows can now be watched online.

  • We have cable, but it is included with our rent. The HOA provides basic cable for all the townhouses. We did have a DVR and all the billions of channels before moving down here, but wanted to see if we could make it without all of it. It has been an adjustment, I'm not going to lie: (?
  • Haven't had cable for more than 5 years.
  • We have cable internet, but no cable/satellite/dish tv or anything.
  • Lurker here. Embarrassed Just jumping in to say:

We just got rid of our satellite. Windows media player has DVR capabilities on Vista and Windows 7 (only in candidate release currently) and works perfectly! You just need a tuner card in your PC. We got a tuner card that has a remote and 2 tuners. Then you can hook your PC up to your TV to watch in large scale. You only get broadcast channels so then we also get Netflix and use Hulu and YouTube, etc.

Just thought I'd share as it's working great for us and I'm pretty excited about it! Big Smile

  • We have almost free cable + internet because my husband works for the cable company.
  • We have the $15 kind that gets us reception (which we wouldn't otherwise have) plus a few extra channels. Plus by having it we get a $15 discount on our internet, so it is a wash.
