My nutritionist said that sickness can cause blood sugar to go high. I have a nasty cold/sore throat (thanks for your slobbery kisses, DS...) and have had high fasting numbers for the last 3 days plus one or two high numbers throughout each day.
I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to call the nutritionist about this... I know I'm eating fine, I'm sure it's because I'm sick (plus some additional family stress over the weekend, I know that doesn't help). I'm not going to let them put me on insulin just because I'm sick, so it doesn't seem worth calling...
Anyone else have this happen when they get sick?
Re: Anyone gotten sick (cold/cough) since GD dx?
This has happened to me about 2 weeks ago and I blamed the same slobbery kisses from DS. I had to up my insulin to stay with in my numbers. I say when you review your numbers with your nutritionist mention that you were sick on such and such day.
I also think they probably won't put you on insulin now since you are so late in the pregnancy and I've heard that as the placenta starts to break down the requirement for insulin gets less.
Feel Better and hope you stay off the insulin.
Not sure if this is comparable, but soon after I started the diet, I had a gastritis attack and was unable to eat or drink for about 24 hours. My first meal after this period - breakfast - was the usual GD meal and I had a score of 156 after an hour! Never happened before or since and the doctor said that was to be expected after not eating for so long.
I hope you feel better soon!
