I don't know how long it will be after this baby is born, but when after I had Justin, I couldn't wait till the 6 weeks were over. My DH was afraid to touch me during 3rd tri and I was really missing it! I do think you need to get it over with.....I know the first time is pretty bad but it does get better, you know that.
After DD was born, we affectionately referred to me as "Frankencrotch." Between that, the PPD, and my intense fear of getting pregnant again (a friend of ours who had a baby the same time as us got pregnant at 6 weeks pp), we waited until I had completely healed AND had my IUD put in. I had Leah on May 10 and we didn't have sex until after the IUD was in and had been checked on once-- end of August. You do the math! Don't feel bad!

6 to 8 weeks, because I felt like I was being a bad wife (I mean we didn't do the deed for a few weeks before birth and then 6 or 7 weeks after, you know?)... but I wish I had waited longer and probably will this time around, because it hurt so bad for months after E was born. Isn't that time after delivery lovely?

It was over 12 weeks with DS and when we tried after that it hurt like 'he*l' so we waited even longer. I also continued to tear everytime we had sex due to lack of estrogen in that area (I think is what it was) so finally after getting the nerve to ask my OB, I got cream for my tear area and it was much better so it was a while for us.
Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!

We tried after about 7 weeks and it hurt so bad we didn't even finish. We tried about once a month since then and it hurt still so we stopped. On our anniversary (June 9, DD was 8 months!) we did it and didn't hurt as bad. We have done it a bunch since then and it 95% back to normal. I can still feel where I tore but barely. Good luck!
We did it shortly after getting the okay from the OB at 6 weeks, coupled with lots of prodding from DH. I told DH that I was more nervous about doing it after having a baby than I was the first time I ever did it! I had read so much about how badly it hurts that I was so scared. Luckly, I didn't have much pain.
Thanks ladies! I am beginning to feel really guilty about holding out on him, so maybe we'll just go for it tonight.
Between breastfeeding and going on the Lexapro for PPD, it's been really hard to get myself in the mood!
The Lexapro can really have an impact on your drive. I was on Lexapro and weaned off right around the time that my IUD was placed anyway, and while I was on Lexapro, I had ZERO interest in sex.

We waited until after my 6 wk PP check to make sure everything was okay. Especially important because of the complications that I'd had.
The first time wasn't the greatest, but DH understood that he needed to take it slow, and was great about paying attention to my cues. It actually didn't hurt as badly as I thought it would, but didn't feel great either.
The 2nd time I remember was much better, and then it gradually got better after that.
Now it's almost like it was pre-pg, although there are still times that it bothers me, like if he gets really deep or something.
After having Ava we did it the weekend before my 6 week PP checkup. It wasn't bad at all but I had no tearing/stitches. I'll add that we were not dreading doing the deed at all b/c I was on pelvic rest at the end of my pregnancy with her and it had been longer than the 6 weeks... we were a bit anxious. We haven't done it since having Charlotte but I am planning on it this weekend. I'll be 6 weeks PP on Monday so I figure that is close enough. I didn't tear this time either so I am hoping all goes well once again.

We waited a while- I know it was longer than 12 weeks. DH was scared he would hurt me (aww!). It hurt but wasn't too bad. I also had a ligament tear down there which just complicated issues. So it's pretty much hurt a little ever since and dh knows this... so he doesn't initiate. I haven't had much pain there lately so I'm hoping it's healed. We'll find out in the coming days.
