This is related to the Vacation/STD thread someone just posted. I've been crunching the numbers and I'm only going to be able to take one full paid month off when LO arrives.

What can I say-- we weren't planning on having a baby! I'm going to take some unpaid time off (probably two months). I was wondering how much time other moms-to-be are taking off of work. Are you taking any unpaid time off? Have a good one, ladies!
Re: How Much Time Are You Taking Off?
I only get 6 weeks.
I am only going back at 80% in the fall so I will be working 3 days a week. If I was going back full time I would take some unpaid leave.
I'll be off for 12 weeks.
2 weeks--vacation time
6 weeks--short term disability--2/3 pay + AFLAC
4 weeks--50% pay from company
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
I will have 6 wks paid and will take 6 wks unpaid.
We've been saving every month so it doesn't hurt us financially. I officially have saved enough to cover the 6 weeks as of last month!
Now to start saving for daycare!
Well my plan is to have the 4weeks before 8 weeks after that work pays me. However the way it looks now with Daycare I will be a SAHM though.
I'm extremely lucky and my work will pay me for 2 months maternity leave. So, I will take those 2 months and then I have 4 weeks vaca/sick time I can take, but I think I will take that time throughout the year.
It's going to be really rough going back to work, but that's just the way it is!
At my work we have no STD - we have to use our sick/vaca time. Of course mine was taken down to a big ZERO balance when I had DD last year. I will have enough saved up to take off about 9 weeks, that includes the week and a few days we get off around Christmas and New Years!!!
This is in discussion right now with my boss, the hr manager, the ceo and the coo.
I am not available for FMLA (haven't been here a year yet). When I sat down with the HR manager last week she offered me one week matenrity leave and 6 weeks of std (one waiting week so 5 weeks paid at 70%..the waiting week will be paid by my 1 week paid maternity leave). I then could use my 26 vacation days giving me my 11 weeks paid and coming back.....I countered them by saying I wasn't comfortable using all my vacation in the month of january and I would like 12 weeks maternity and I would be comfortable with 6 weeks std and 6 weeks unpaid.
My boss came up to me on friday and said that they will most likely be able to do what I want but they have to get the CEO's approval so I am waiting on that..fingers crossed!!!
I can get up to 4 wks before the birth (if the dr writes me out)-most likely I will not take this.
12 wks after the birth!
I will get at least 6 weeks that will be covered by my short term disability (well, the first 2 weeks I have to use my earned vacation time, then I'll get at least 4 weeks of short term.) After the dr. says I'm able to go back to work, my short term ends and I can take up to 12 weeks (total) either paid or unpaid, but my manager has to approve that extra time. Initially she told me to take all the time I can- but after my meeting with HR, she isn't really talking about what she will allow.
My intentions are to probably take 10 weeks total. When my short term ends, I will be using my earned time so I will continue to get paid. If I run out of earned time, I plan to go back to work sooner but I should have enough by then. (I will continue to accrue earned time/vacation time while I am out, as long as I am getting some form of pay.) This may change when the time comes but that's what I am planning on doing. DH will probably take only 1 week but his work is slow in the winter so he may get more time with me and LO anyways.
6 wks STD @ 60%, 6 wks FMLA @ 60% and if possible 2-3 wks vacation & 2 wks sick.
I'm also hoping to increase my telecommute days to 2 or 3 days/week upon returning to work.
18 weeks:
6 - STD / sick time
12 - FMLA (6 weeks paid at 2/3 salary)
I just got my certification to teach and since I'm due in Sept, I'm not even looking for a job for the fall (not that I'd have much luck anyway, the county system cut 25 positions and the city system got 16 more, but had over 300 applicants). I will begin looking for a job (preferrably part time) starting in Jan unless I get frustrated being at home before then.
This exactly what I am doing too
I will take 6 weeks 100% pay under STD, then an additional 4 weeks unpaid under FMLA.
I could theoretically take 2 more, but assuming I go close to my due date, 10 weeks would put me back right after New Years on Jan 4th which is a nice clean date to start. Plus, it is really expensive for me to take those 2 extra weeks with no pay and we could use the extra cash!
look at the birds | bless this food
I'll be off for the full 12 weeks: 2 weeks sick time, 6 weeks short-term, 4 weeks unpaid. We are currently saving for the money that will be lost while I'm on short-term and unpaid leave.
I'm taking 12 weeks (unless baby arrives early, then I'll be taking a bit more).
1.5 weeks vacation
6 weeks STD recieving full pay (8 weeks if I end up having a c-section)
The remainder is unpaid...

Trying again..
Between STD and my vacation I'm estimating that I will get about 9 weeks paid the next 3 weeks will be unpaid.
I'm taking 8 weeks 100% paid STD and then 3 weeks and 1 or 2 days (depending on what I've accrued) vacation. This will likely put me back to work the last calendar week of the year, so DH will stay home with the LO and it will likely be reduced work hours that week anyways since no one will be around.
Of course this can all change based on LO arrival date...
10- 12 weeks, (depending on when baby actually comes, I am not working through the holidays so I may have to break it up)
1 week vacation
6-8 weeks STD 60% pay
The remainder is unpaid...
I want to breastfeed for the first 3 months, possibly longer but work is not super bf friendly so I do not see it being a longer term thing... so I will be taking as much time as possible for that reason
We're really lucky at my company. I will qualify for at least 6 weeks STD paid at 100%. If I have a c-section or any other complication, I'll qualify for 8 weeks STD paid at 100%.
In addition, I will qualify for 4 weeks maternity leave, paid at 100%.
Then I'll probably take 2-3 weeks vacation. There will be some holidays in there as well to extend things. So 12-13 weeks total, all paid.
My company gives a full 12 weeks paid maternity leave so I will be using that and possibly a week or two of vacation as well.
