Swelling and joint pain anyone?

I know that some swelling in pregnacy is normal and just one of the many discomforts we have to endure for our LOs. I am swelling up huge and not just in my feet but my entire body especially my face. My BP is normal and my midwives aren't concerned about it so I've stopped worrying that I was at risk of Pre-e.

Now, however, my joints are in a lot of pain. I woke up in the middle of the night to use the washroom (surprise surprise) and I could hardly open the bedroom door because my knuckles and wrists hurt soooo badly. My whole body feels like it would if I was getting the flu, it's sooo achey.

Just wondering if any of you are experiencing the same thing in terms of swelling, especially if you live somewhere that is experiencing warmer weather.

All I can say is thank God I'm done work as of Thrusday!

  • Maybe you do have the flu?  Take some Tylenol

  • I am right there with you! My feet, face and hands are swelling really bad.  I keep ice on them on an off throughout the day.  My hands have been the worse though...sometimes i can't straighten out a couple of my fingers because the nerves are so constricted.  They ache all the time....doc said it is totally normal.  I, however am not a fan at all!!!! My fingers also tingle like they are asleep! The dr. did however give me some encouraging words "Oh, don't worry, the swelling is 10 times worse after the baby comes." Gee thanks Doc!!! haha
  • I've been helping my parents move, so this is an obvious explanation. But my hips have started to become extremely sore which I don't think is related to helping...

I read somewhere that all joints and muscles in pregnant women start to get loose to prepare for labor.

  • yes, woke up every forty five min last night because of pain in my hands and wrists.  Midwife said of course normal, and to drink more water, and to consider buying the wrist braces for carpal tunel.  said that they can help keep blood flow consistant.
  • I was waking up several times a night from the horrible pain in my finger joints. ?They were like claws and they would also get numb and tingly. ?I just started sleeping in wrist braces last week (the kind with the metal splint) and it makes a WORLD of difference!

  • I'm having a lot of joint pain due to swelling as well. I live in Virginia and it's definitely hot here right now! DH and I have gone out walking the past few nights in hopes of getting things going, and after about 10 minutes outside I can hardly move my hands because they've swollen up so much.
