love and logic uh-oh question

They say not to give warnings.  But isn't saying uh-oh right when she is about to do something wrong giving a warning?  Or do they mean, give that one, but don't say "I'm warning you - if you do x, then you will x"

thoughts?

Re: love and logic uh-oh question

  • Yes, exactly. You should never have to say, "If you do X again I will X". We're still working on the "uh-oh", but we don't use uh-oh since that's what she uses for anything that is dropped/thrown/or falls on the floor. I mean we don't use the uh-oh, instead I use kind of an ah-ah-ah sound.

  • where did you hear not to say uh oh?  that's the only thing i can say to get dd to stop in her tracks.
  • Good idea - I like that sound better for this because we use uh oh for other things too and so do her friends.

still seems like the ahh or uh-oh woudl be a warning.  (not questioning you - just trying to wrap my head around it.)

  • I think their point is that uh-oh (or whatever you use) is a signal that you are about to take action. You don't say, "Uh-oh! Now don't do that again or X." You say, "Uh-oh, it looks like someone is done with lunch!" and you take them out of the highchair. KWIM?
