DD, DH and I are taking our first camping trip this weekend. We are going to this great place on the beach and they have showers, toilets, a swing set..and of course the beach. We are so excited that we finally can go camping again, but I am very nervous about DD sleeping in the tent w/ us, since she has always slept in a crib by herself. We are heading down there after (or during) her naptime so she will sleep in the car and staying one night. Any recs on how to get her to sleep at night? Any things in particular I should do or bring for toddlers? Going to bring a bunch of stuff for her to play with at the beach.
Re: Going camping w/ DD. Any tips?
jessicada gave some really good suggestions. We also have a tent that's big enough for our air mattress and her pack-n-play. Eventually she's going to get too big for the pnp...so I'm thinking about brining either some of that egg crate stuff with a toddler sized sleeping bag or a toddler size mattress for her to sleep on in the tent.
As far as things to bring....we take a backpack to go hiking with her in it. We don't have to bring too many things besides beach/sand toys. She loves playing at the playground and hanging out by the campsite. Some campsites have a place for kids to ride bikes..so we bring her toddler bike with the handle on the back and push her around. We make sure to bring her teddy to sleep with and a battery operated night light for sleeping, but that's pretty much it. I love camping...and once your take your DD....it gets easier each time you go. Have fun!
Great timing. We're going this weekend too. DS usually sleeps with us in a bed so I'm not worried about him sleeping in the tent but I am concerned about
1) fire and keeping him far enough away
2) making sure he doesn't annoy everyone if (or when) he has a temper tantrum which I'm sure will happen at some point.
3) How do you keep milk cold the whole weekend? Will a cooler really be ok?

1) - I was worried about this too. WE told Paige HOT - VERY HOT! It will hurt you! So she got to the point where she would look at it - frown - and walk clear out around it to avoid it!
2) - I wouldn't worry about this at all! All kids have tantrums and you should know people bring kids - if you don't want to put up with it then you should go to a retirement campground!.....where it is just old people!....lol.
3)Paige is not a milk drinker so we don't have this issue - we just take water - but I would think a cooler - as long as you keep plenty of ice in it should keep it cold enough - you might also put it in a thermos!
