Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Does your LO have a big belly?

DH is freaking out because DD has a really big belly and he thinks it is "distended".  I think he's worried more because we've been having constipation problems with her that only seem to be fixed with Miralax (believe me, we've tried everything else first & it hasn't worked).  Every time we stop the Miralax, she starts getting constipated again.  But when she lays down, her tummy flattens, & it doesn't bother her when we push on it, and it's not hard at all.

DD has always had a pretty big belly & the dr. didn't say anything about it at her 9 month appt.  My mother says all babies have big bellies, but DD is the first baby on both sides so DH & I don't really have anyone to compare to.

Does your LO have a belly that pops out still?  PIP if you'd like :-)

BTW DD has an appt. Wednesday with her pedi GI doc (for her milk protein intolerance), and we plan on addressing the constipation concerns with him then, but meanwhile it would make us feel better to know that other babies have Buddah Bellies too!

:-)

  • I am not really sure what you mean by big belly.  My DS has a big belly but he is also 26 lbs.  The highchairs in restaurants are almost to small to buckle him up now!

  • DS has always been a rather skinny baby, but he still has a belly that sticks out.

I once read somewhere that babies and young toddlers use their belly as their center of gravity when walking, so they actually push it out a little farther than older kids do.

  • My daughter is only 18 pounds and I say she has a milk belly!  In the morning it's almost flat, by the end of the night, it's plump.  I think it's cute and I thought all babies had one also.  My daughter is really petite so I just think her's sticks out more.

  • DD is tall and thin, but she does have a pop belly that sticks out, especially at the end of the day.

  • Yup, DD is pretty small but still has a little belly that sticks out over her diaper.  I think it's the cutest thing.

  • OMG yes!!!  We call her budda....and this is a kid who is 14th% in weight and 80th for height, so it's not like she's fat.  We can see her ribs, yet she has this huge belly sticking out.
  • Yes, he has a portruding belly.  I was worried about it too, but when we went in for our 12 month check up "portruding belly or (toddler belly) "was on the list of things we might notice about our toddler. It is normal.  I remember my nephew having it too.  He's 5 now and doesn't have it anymore.  DS definately has it.
  • DS does not really have that big of a belly but I have seen plenty of DC's who do.

  • DD is just a little peanut (She's 16 months and she's still not 20 lbs...) and she has a big tummy.  She thinks it's funny.  It seems a little odd, but I don't think there is anything wrong with her (like you said, it's not hard or anything, she doesn't seem bothered if you touch it).  Boys freak out about the strangest, stupidest things...... I'm all about Mom's insticts :)
