This topic was brought up on 3rd tri and I thought it was interesting - what will your kids be calling their grandparents?
?For DH's parents it's Grandma and Grampa. ?For my parents - who knows. ?The topic started off funny with my parents but has become such a thorn in my side. ?My Mom has such an issue with being a Grandma. ?She's excited about the grandchild but at the same time hates the idea that she's getting older. ?She can't decide on a name and bugs us about it all the time. ?I don't care that she doesn't want to be called Grandma but she brings this topic up all the time. ?I feel like teaching our kids to call her grandmother just to annoy her
?

FIL: Grampa
My grandparents were slightly formal and wanted to be called Grandma Nethercut (maiden name) and Grandpa Nethercut. My half-brother is the oldest grandchild and could only manage Grandmacut and Grandpacut...it stuck. Growing up, my mom and G-ma were always butting heads (too much alike) and my mom used to always say ,"If I am like Grandmacut please shoot me!" When brother and SIL were pg, my mom decided she wanted to be called Nana. Well my brother wanted her to be Grandmacut (just to annoy her) and so taught my nephew to call her that. At some point though, my nephew could only get Grannycut and thus the name. My mom has come to terms with it and I think really likes it now.
Here is what the other grand kids call them:
My mom - Mimi
My dad - pawpaw
MIL - grammy
FIL - Coach
My mom- Mimi
My dad- Papa
MIL- nanna
FIL- Grandpa
MIL- Mamaw
FIL- Papa
Dad- Gransir?
Mom- Granma'am?
Ok, so the Granma'am thing. My DH calls my parents sir and ma'am... as if it's their first name, so we tease them that our kids will call them Granma'am and Gransir... My sibs hate that thought, but, none of them have kids or are having any anytime soon! My mom already calls herself Granma'am to our dog!
We'll just have to see!
Ethan calls my parents GubaGuba which is babynese for grandpa grandma. It is really cute.
