My boss hinted that I'm up next to be laid off. I'm going to ask her about it tomorrow but I'm devastated. FI was laid off 3 months ago. SDs will be here for the summer in TWO days. How are we going to feed them? Our life is falling apart right before our wedding and I don't know how we'll get through this.
Re: Think I'm about to lose my job
Curly-
Circle the wagons. That's all you can do.
As Dave Ramsey says, you worry about your 4 walls first: FOOD, HOUSE, TRANSPORTATION, CLOTHING. (And really, the forth isn't necessary to worry about-- more than likely, you're not going naked. LOL!) You draw a line and anything below that line doesn't get paid. You take care of the necessities FIRST. And when the CC companies start calling, you tell them WHY you can't pay. It's that simple. "I'm sorry, but both myself and my DH have been laid off. My necessities come first. When I have a spare dollar, you, along with everyone else we owe will get a % of it. If you want to call me back in 2 weeks to see where we're at, that's fine. if you call before then, I will remind you of the date that you may call and hang up." It works.
Now, my DH and I are striving to be debt free at this point, and could care less about our credit. We plan to pay off our little house and pay for our next one in cash. We're doing without a lot.
Yes, it sucks, but you know what? We're finding other things to do with our time-- we go to the library. We ask for zoo memberships and whatnot for gifts, we go to free programs. As a family, we're closer and quite honestly, happier.
You can make it work. Just remember to keep your priorities straight. Keep you and your family fed, your roof over your head and a vehicle to keep looking for a job. Those are the important things. The rest are really just details.
As for your SDs, I hear sprinklers in the backyard can be a wonderfully fun activity! Be creative.
email me at anniya77 at yahoo dot com if you need more advise. Also, the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University has been a GOD SEND to us!

Thanks Anniya. My friend said the second it happens, call the credit card companies and see if we can work something out. She said her friend got them to agree to $5 and they said they were glad she was paying something rather than nothing. So I'm going to take her advice and do that.
When I talked to FI, we decided that after the kids go back to BM, we'll pack up everything and move to my parents house (16 hrs away + more jobs in their city) and rent our house out. We're already finding free things to do for the kids because we were broke with just FI out of work. Trust me, I know when reading day is at the library! FI was going to take them to visit his parents to visit while I stayed here to work, they have a pool and all his relatives here have pools so they can swim all summer, I guess the plus side is that now I can be a part of it.
I feel so out of control of my own life. I was going to go back to school to make a better life for us later, and we were going to have kids of our own We can't do any of that now, we can barely hang on.
Hey Curly sorry your going through this. Fi and I are under pressure also. Last year we spent a fortune on architects/engineers to draw up plans for our dream house. We own the site and the plans, unfortunately we can't afford to build the house right now.
Also we are getting married next year and our budget is fixed at $10,000 for everything.
We are also stuck with two very expensive car's that we cannot get rid of. We have had them for sale for weeks now and have not received one call about them.
When we started on our 'life journey' we were making good money, now we are down about $4,000 per month - SUCKS.
Hang in there girl, we will all survive this and become better, stronger people in the process.
I talked to my boss this morning and asked her if the decision had been made and she said no. She said she was sorry that I took what she said that way, but she didn't intend for me to think I was being let go and felt really bad about it. She said she can't make promises that I won't be laid off because of the financial situation but that the decision has not been made so as of today I am not laid off.
That was the worst night ever but as long as they can keep me through the summer until the kids go back to BM I'll be ok with whatever happens. Thanks for your support ladies!
