Trying to Get Pregnant

ladies who have previously been on metformin

when you stopped taking it, did you get your next period? I started taking it a couple months ago, but only 1 (sometimes 2) a day. I stopped taking it 2-3 weeks ago & I'm wondering if that's why I haven't got my period yet..

AF should have been here last weekend, and I've already had 2 BFN's.

thanks!

Re: ladies who have previously been on metformin

  • I thought you had to take metformin daily on a consistent dosage...why would you "sometimes" take 2 a day??

Did you doctor tell you to stop taking it for some reason?

  • It's very probable that's why you haven't gotten your period yet, as metformin can help regulate your cycle- it will take some time to your body to adjust being off it, just as it adjusted to being on it. Can I ask why you went off it?
  • I know I probably should have talked to my doc about it, but I'm second guessing why she put me on it to begin with. Since we've been ttc I've been having a regular cycle every month, and when I was charting it appeared I was O'ing every month. I've also had a + OPK every month since TTC.. my doc knew all this, so I'm just confused as to whether I should really be on it or not.

I have an appt with her in a couple of months, but I guess in the meantime I'll just start it up again and hopefully my cycles will go back to normal. sigh.

  • Did she do bloodwork on you to see that you have an insulin resistance problem, diabetes, or other hormonal issues?

nope.. no insulin problems, no diabetes, and no hormonal issues that I know of. She said it might help me to lose weight (although I'm not obese or anything) and help me ovulate if in fact I'm not.. but nothing I've seen points to me not ovulating.
