I'm pretty sure I'm experiencing engorgement as my milk has been coming in & possibly a plugged milk duct. I've been pumping to help, but this morning when I pumped, I went to put it in a bottle to feed her later & noticed it had chunks in it (& it was fresh from the breast). Is that normal? I've read about it seperating due to milk fat (especially when refrigerated or frozen), but again it was fresh & even when I shook, it did not seperate.
Anyone else experience this or know what might be happening? I'm assuming it might be due to the engorgement & possibly clogged duct?
I prefer to ask you EFF ladies first rather than the BF forum because I'm some what familiar with this group & more comfortable asking you all.
Re: Breast feeding question from a new mom
That's what I thought, considering after this happened my breasts have felt much better & the milk has been coming out easier. The one that seemed to be engorged the worst gave the most chunks. It took a lot of massaging before I pumped too, & I'm going to start using hot/cold packs throughout the day to help as well & pump more often... this is exactly what I get for skipping a pumping last night to get more sleep
ditto the others - that sounds like you had a clogged duct and it came out.
It could very well have been the clog. I actually was able to [warning it's going to get a abit graphic] pull one from my breast with tweezers. It was like a very thin spaghetti noodle, but purely made of fat. Supposed to be totally fine to feed to baby, even if there is a little blood.
If it happens again, you can use a heating pad to help soften the plug and then work it out with massage...
Best of luck, it can hurt, but itis totally worth the effort.
