In my "Consumer Reports Best Baby Products" it says it is safest for baby to sleep in his crib from day 1. It said they are safer than bassinets, cosleepers, and pack n plays.
In another book I read it is best for the baby to sleep in your room for the first 3 months.
I find those things conflicting since most people don't have a crib in their room.
DH and I both were straight to the crib babies, but I am not sure what I want to do now.
What are you doing?
Re: Where will your LO sleep at first?
In a bassinet in our room. It's the same bassinet I slept in when I was a baby. My parents had it restored for my brother and SIL when they had their son last year, and now it's being passed on to me.
I don't think either option is "bad." Just do whatever you're most comfortable with.
Straight to the crib in his/her own room. That's what my mom did with both of us and personally for me-I think I will want MY space to still be MY get away space with no baby stuff in it.
This!
Straight to its crib hopefully. I just think parents and babies sleep better that way. That and our room is like 10 steps from the baby room..so I won't miss much.
I do have a Moses basket so baby has something for day. On the worst nights I'm assuming I'll put baby in there in our room..but I don't want to make a habit of it.
We will be using an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper until Baby Girl sleeps at least a 4 hour stretch consistently at night.
I do not want to be zombie-walking from our room all the way to the nursery multiple times a night, and we don't have room for a bed in the nursery or in ?the office for me to sleep on that side of the house the first few months.?
The O'Baby Blog
word for word
I am 100% for straight to the crib. I honestly believe that it's best for all involved for many reasons.
DD went straight to her crib and we've never had any issues. #2 will be the same. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is that the kids will be sharing a room, and I'm a bit worried about how one waking up and crying will effect the other.
That's a rough situation. Hopefully your DD will get used to the crying and will sleep right through it. I am not an expert on babies, but I know that by the time my nephew was 8 months he didn't let much wake him up.
That sucks and is a major pet peeve of mine. How do people allow themselves to become those people?
This. I have seen too many people start out with baby in room only to end up still cosleeping 4 years later and no end in sight. Our room still needs to be our space.

Trying again..
We're getting a stroller with a bassinet, so I'll have that right next to the bed for the first few weeks. After that we'll transition to the crib, but the crib is in our room (we have a 1-bedroom apartment).
We'll eventually move the baby to this little hallway nook, but I'm not sure when that we'll be. Maybe somewhere between 3-6 months? We'll see how we're all sleeping.
Junior will be in a bassinet in our room for the first few months and then he will be in his crib.
This. (Only our master is upstairs and the nursery is downstairs.)
i got the PNP with the bassinet feature, so our plan is for him to sleep in our bedroom in the PNP for the first couple of weeks, then move to the crib from there.
i don't want to get *too* used to him being in our room, because like many others, i want that space for ourselves, but i'm also fully aware that that early on i'm not going to want to be in perpetual motion to his room, especially while recovering, etc.
Our LO will be sleeping in his crib from day one. We have a portable bassinet basket thing that he might sleep in thru the day, but even so, we'll just plop that in the crib. I think it's important to get the baby used to their own bed and room early on. The nursery is right across the hall from the Master, so it will take mere seconds to get to the little one for feedings and changings. My mom did this will all three of us girls and my sis used the same strategy with her two boys and we were all good sleepers, so I'll continue the family tradition and hope for the same results!
It's really a matter of personal preference though. I am not a fan of having the baby in your bed or a co-sleeper, but that's just me. To each there own.
us too. I'd rather have our room be our room so when we want to get our mojo a go go ing again it will be easier.
I know wishful thinking!
We plan to have the baby sleep in our room for the first couple months, in a P-n-P. However we'll probably have a better idea once the baby is here.
This. Exactly
It's not good for a marriage. I don't understand why the hell she did it. Then again, I don't agree with many of the things my SIL lets her children do.
this
?I know so many people that let there kids sleep with them. ?I am so so against it. ?I agree terrible for the marriage in the long run. ?That is why the baby will only be next to me 2-3 weeks until I get use to his/her breast feed schedule then off to the crib. ??
