Ok... silly question. But friends of mine have a son who is about a year older then ds... He was huge at 9 months and I think almost 33lbs at one year... at that point you pretty much have to forward face a car seat right? Since most rf ones only go between 30-35 lbs? There are no car seats yet (and I say yet, becuase this is a newer rule) that go to a higher weight limit rigth?
I don't think ds is going to be that big at 1 but I don't know either... he's only a little over 18lbs right now at 7 months and only gained .5lb a month for the last 2 months... so I'm not too worried about it, but still it made me think.
Re: Car seats - RF vs FF
20 lbs AND at least 1 year.
Most hold RFing until 35 lbs.
The Graco My Ride 65 RFs until 40lbs and harnesses to 65lbs. It is new and the highest RFing weight on the market in th US right now.
And, fwiw, my oldest was HUGE as an infant (23lbs by 7 months) and is still RFing at almost two years old. He had a massive slow down in growth after a year. He's only thirty pounds now.
I know the 20lbs / 1 yo rule for sure... and they are talking about chaning the law up here... right now it's just starting to be recommended until 2... I hope it does change.
There are some carseats that RF longer than that. I *believe* there is one that goes to 60-70 lbs?
I'm sure someone will pop in with some links.
A good friend of mine has a huge kid too and he was FF at 9-10 months. At the time I didn't have a kid and didn't know the difference. We have since talked about it and had she known she would have kept him RF. I would send her the links - maybe she just doesn't know they are out there.
It's good to know some go up higher... now (my friends baby) is almost 2 anyways... but it's good to know for number 2 I could get a higher weighted car seat... Right now mine only goes up to 35lbs... but I'm assuming ds won't gain extremely fast now that he's really active. Thanks ladies.
Oh and my friend who has a almost 4 yo now... but her daughter ff at 7.5 months 3 years ago. I didn't know better then either... I was only 22 at the time and wasn't even close to having kids. If I had known better at that point I would have said something.
