anyone else's DC grind their teeth??

Kenley has started this recently and it's TERRIBLE!  Makes my skin crawl to hear it and I know it's bad for her teeth and jaw.  Has anyone had this issue and have any advice on ways to stop it??

  • YES! Jack has been doing it for so long now. He doesn't do it all the time though, TG! He does it sometimes and I do everything possible to try and get him to stop. I make him do 'sooo big' or 'wheels on the bus'....anything to get him to focus on something else.

  • Yes, and it gives me that heebies.
  • DD started doing it as soon as she had both top and bottom teeth. It lasted about a month or so and now she's stopped.

I just ignored it because I think she was doing it to annoy me. Lol. It made such a horrible sound.

  • I'm sorry! That would drive me bonkers! Yet another reason I'm glad there are only 2 teeth in Scarlett's mouth, lol.

YES!  DD seems to do it the most when she is teething.  Like the pp, I do try to redirect her to something else which usually does the trick.

  • My DS just started doing this.  There was an article in this month's parents magazine on this (it's called bruxism).  While it is annoying, it is perfectly normal in young children who are teething.  There was no advice on stopping it since it actually helps the teething process.
  • ACK Yes!!!  It makes my skin crawl as well!!  She will do it for a few days before and after a new tooth.  Makes mommy want a pair of ear plugs!  ;)
  • My DD started doing this a month ago and she also will move her bottom jaw from side to side so her bottom teeth go on either side of her top teeth (she only has 2 on top and 2 on the bottom). The noise is annoying, but I work with people who are MR and they do it all day so it doesn't bother me too much. I am glad to hear other people's DCs do it too though!

This is completely normal and they will grow out of it.  The best thing to do is ignore it and redirect to something else.  It will not cause tooth damage.
