  • I have the Dyson - well worth the $$

  • Oreck - especially if you have pets.  But buy the basic model - they all work the same.  They can be expensive, so don't let them talk you into a higher end model.
  • I have the Eureka The Boss Smartvac (it's red).  After having one for four years we had to get another one after it broke during our move (falling out of the moving truck).  We have two labs and a baby and it gets the job done quite nicely.  I wanted a dyson this time around, but really could not come up with the money.  I got the Eureka at Bed Bath and Beyond for around 130 dollars with a coupon.  It got pretty good reviews online.

  • I was just like you before I got my Dyson Animal (not the ball). I thought, 'there's no way I can justify spending that kind of money on a vaccuum." But, DH and I (who own 4 cats) thought that maybe we'd give it a try after all of the stellar reviews we had heard from friend who have it.

OH MY GOODNESS. I was disgusted by what it picked up the first go around. I thought, 'My God... my LO would have been crawling around on all of this nastiness.' Don't get me wrong - we vaccuumed once every two days and always got compliments on how clean our apt was with 4 cats and how it never smelled, etc. What the eye cannot see is amazing.... DH and I have already noticed how much our allergies have subsided (we've only had it for about a month). We are breathing and sleeping better more and more every day. We are still amazed with each session we do with the vaccuum. It's amazing and one of the best investments we've ever made.

  • Kenmore canister vacuum.  I love it love it love it.  It costs slightly less than a Dyson.
  • I have the purple Dyson Animal and love it, I think it was well worth the $$. What is sucks up is unbelievable and is great to use on sofas, curtains, we use it on the hardwoods as well to get all the dust/hair bunnies.

I have heard good things about theOreck as well

  • dyson animal, DC25.  it's AMAZING.

  • Also have the Dyson Animal.  Thought spending that much on a vacuum was crazy, but like PP you'll be disgusted with the amount of stuff it picks up.  So worth the money.
