Pregnant after a Loss

How early did you start nursery?

DH and I did some painting on our house yesterday and it got me to thinking that I don't know if i am going to want to be doing nursery painting in a couple months like I had planned.  I was uncomfortable yesterday and I barely have any extra weight... in a couple months I will be miserable.  I was curious how early you all started on buying furniture, bedding, and doing decorating in your nurseries?  I can't help but be apprehensive about starting early although I seem to be mostly over my fear that something is going to go wrong.

Re: How early did you start nursery?

  • We purchased our furniture in the beginning of May because we found something we liked and we wanted to take advantage of a sale that was going on ( I was about 17 weeks). The room was already painted (we have  a new house) the color we picked out know that the room would be a nursery eventually boy or girl we wanted it to work., and the bedding we bought after the big ultrasound. Other than that we haven't really done anything I still need to find thigns to put in the room and fill the closet, but honestly now that I know we are having a shower, I am going to get the bigger things out of the way then wait to buy the things we need till after the shower so I will be like 34/35 weeks before I do anything else probably unless I find things for the walls.

  • I had my big u/s at 20 weeks and we started ordering nursery furniture around 22 weeks.  The furniture came in at 26 weeks and that's when I started working on the room.

If you are going to be painting, I'd start earlier rather than later.  I painted a glider at 29 weeks and it took a lot out of me--- I should also add that I was sitting down the majority of the time.

  • We started when I was around 13 weeks, just painting and then got serious at 15 weeks when we found out it was girl. Now we are done and so relieved to not worry about it anymore
  • We painted around 22 weeks, I think.  I was very insistant that I did not want to be dealing with major nursery set up when I was in my last couple of months.  I am still doing small organizational stuff, like which items in which dresser drawers, but nothing too strenuous or stressful.

  • My DH did all of the painting & assembling of everything. He only started a couple of weeks ago & I'm 99% done now. I actually just posted last night that I would recommend 34 weeks as a cut off for any big projects b/c that's when with both pregnancies I started to get a lot of swelling in my feet & ankles & it got to be very uncomfortable trying to run up & down two flights of stairs with laundry etc. Sooner is probably better than later!
  • We started buying things around 20 weeks, ordered the crib, ordered bedding, I finally ordered the dresser over the weekend, and we painted her room this weekend.  We waited longer than I wanted to start painting, but my DH had a big test in June that he had to study every night for and he wanted to wait until after it was over. In the end we'll be fine though.
