I got this brush and I brush his teeth after I brush mine b/c he sees me do it then he wants to do it. I like it because it has like a slot for his teeth to fit, like a mouth guard and hit has a bunch of little bristles so you don't have to really work at the strokes if they fight it.
he likes the raffi "brush your teeth" song and so i lay him on his changing table after his bath and before he is out of his towel i just lean over him and sing the song and brush the brush across his teeth. we don't use toothpaste or anything, so i just keep the brush on his changing table. then i give him the brush and let him "brush" his teeth. he chews on the bristles and will rub them back and forth across his teeth the way i do. it is really cute.
I usually just say open wide and I open my mouth and I sing a silly song changing it each time like brush brush brush, brush brush brush, brush your teeth brush your teeth (to the tune of shake you booty). I usually give her the tube of toothpaste to hold and then I give her a chance to try to brush on her own. I just try to make it fun and silly. We still have really good days and days where I can barely move the brush. I try to be quick and efficient!
Our newest trick is to give DS a tooth brush and I have a tooth brush (both of them little toddler ones). DS brushes my teeth and I brush his. He laughs so much it is easy to get in there.
I've been brushing DD's teeth for months and I'm still worried she's getting some build-up. We're going to the dentist tomorrow for a consult. :P
She'll open up and let me scrub for a few seconds at a time before she closes up or pushes the brush away. I sing, I ask her please to open up, I pretend to scrub my teeth with her brush. Some days are better than others in terms of success.
When I made her appointment, the tech I talked to suggested trying one of the motorized toothbrushes. Some kids apparently like that better.

It scares DD, though, she cries if I turn it on.
