3rd Trimester

I would fire...no murder...this doctor!

My friend is 30w pg and she had a growth u/s last week, just to check on everything.  Well, the tech looks at her and says, "do you know that you have GD?"  My friend was like..."uh....no...I was tested 2 weeks ago and they said everything was fine."  So she was sent down to the lab and tested again...yep...she has it!  Her dr didn't believe the results so he's making her get tested for it again tomorrow, but her baby is already 3.5lbs, so he's big obv.  She is freaking out!

Re: I would fire...no murder...this doctor!

  • is 3 1/2lbs that big for 30 weeks?? dd was 4lbs 2oz at 32 weeks and my Dr. said that was the 50th percentile.

  • Wow, that's a surprise.  Although I do not have GD and at 28 weeks, LO was measuring 3lb 5oz.  Hopefully she can get this straightened out.
  • I have GD so I had a growth U/S last week at 30w6d and my LO was measuring 3lbs 1oz and the tech said that was perfect, right on schedule. She is in the 50th percentile. It doesn't sound like your friend's baby is really that much bigger than what is expected.
  • That's not that big. I had an ultrasound at 28 weeks and baby was just shy of 3 lbs and was in the 50th percentile.
  • yeah, at 27 weeks my baby was 2lbs 7oz, so I would think he would be over 3 lbs in two weeks. ?No GD here.

  • what does GD mean?
  • Gestational Diabetes
  • I guess I don't understand why the tech knew it from the size of the baby and why the Doctor should be fired, just because her first test came back negative. ?Was it in her records and she was never told?

  • Um, yeah....at 34 weeks my moose was estimated at 7.6lbs via U/S. I passed my 1 hr, but was asked to repeat it....which I just did.

I will know tomorrow, but I won't blame my OB if I have it now.

  • I don't get it.  Why would you kill the doctor if she passed 2 weeks ago?
  • I didn't mean to put so much emphasis on how big he's measuring.  I'm just saying that I'd be upset that my dr first missed it (probably by labs being mixed up, so maybe not his fault) and then refusing to believe the follow up labs ordered by u/s.  I don't think it's a good way for your dr to be acting.  Sorry for not being clear.  :-)
