I don't know if there is anything I can do to encourage him or if it's just a personality trait. He's such and easy and laid-back baby, so I really can't complain.....but I'd be great if he'd STTN!

Re: Any tips for getting DS to STTN?
The things that have really made the difference for us:
Bed time routine the same every night, pay attention to baby's cues about being tired in the evening. Our bed time changed from 9 to 8 to 7 because she "wanted" it that way. Making "pacifier trips" placing it back in and then walking right out and not "engaging" her. Trying this 2-3 times before giving in and feeding her. Eventually she would go right back to sleep and not need to eat. Try rocking baby back to sleep before feeding if the paci didn't work.
This and just plain luck!
It doesn't work every night. But we are pretty much STTN now it is great!
Good luck to you!
If he's at a normal healthy weight then he no longer physically needs to wake to eat in the night and it's now simply habit/comfort.
If you stop feeding in the middle of the night they WILL up their caloric intake during the day to make up for what they're "used to" getting in the middle of the night. ?They won't starve to death!?
Modified CIO would likely work at this age.
CIO is controversial. ?I hate doing it but I honestly believe it's in the child's best interest to get good quality uninterrupted sleep once the need for round the clock nutrition is not longer the driving force for waking.
It sucks and it's hard to hear your baby cry. ?That's why I have to do modified (cry for 5, soothe to calm and back down, cry for 8 or 10, soothe to calm and back down, cry for 15, soothe to calm and back down.) ?Even then I'm in tears during the process.
But it's worth it.
Usually takes 2-3 nights.
GL with your decisions!?

As advised by my pedi's office, we let Ben CIO and he usually falls asleep within a few minutes. Another big thing is not letting him nap past 4pm and he goes to bed at 9pm each night. Before this, he would stay up until 11pm and still wake up in the middle of the night. After a few days, he was sleeping from 9am until 7 or 8am and it is wonderful!
Ditto PP who said that they will make up for the calorie intake the next day, if they miss a nighttime bottle .... BUT - it will take about 3-4 days for them to get used to missing that bottle - thus not making up for the bottle until then. I did not know this and when DD slept through the night and missed her midnight bottle, I thought she'd make up for it the next day. Nope. Not until about 3-4 days later did she start making up for it.
We put DD down about 7:30pm after feeding her veggies. At 10pm right before we go to bed we feed her about 4 ounces. She doesn't wake up again until about 6:45am or so.
She has always been a great sleeper ... but crappy eater. She only takes about 24 oz of formula per day, so that is why we started her on solids already to add some more weight on her - per the pedi. I think you and I have talked about this before and our kids are about 4 days apart and weigh the same.
