Flat or Satin Finish?

We finally decided on a paint for the nursery, now I just have to decide on a finish.  What are you ladies going with, flat or satin??  Thanks!

Re: Flat or Satin Finish?

  • I am a fan of flat finish it is also much easier to touch up!

  • We got the satin finish because the lady recommended that for the nursery bc its easier to clean. Dh is painting today while I'm at work... I can't wait to go home and see it.

  • If you don't like the shine but want protection like a satin, get eggshell. It is just a hair shinier than flat but you can scrub it without worry. Lowe's has Olympic paint that is freshaire certified. meaning that it has low or no vocs. so even the most pregnant of women can paint and not be affected, if that is what you wish. Generally speaking though, they recommend either satin or semi-gloss.

    Good Luck

  • We like flat but get eggshell, because it is easier to clean.  It looks somewhere between flat and satin, so it is a decent compromise.
  • We did Satin finish, it was recommended by the sales person.

I swear by SW Duration in a matte finish. It's not chalky like most flat paints, but, not shiny at all, either. Best of all, you can wipe it clean- not something you can do with most flat paints, and important with kids.

It's also low VOC and goes on like an absolute dream. :)

ditto!  I love this paint.  We did our kitchen last year and I couldn't be happier with this paint.

  • We went with the eggshell finish. FIL uses that for all his home projects and ours turned out great.

  • Definitely flat, we are doing wainscoting, and that will be high gloss, so I wanted to do flat on the top. I much prefer the look of flat, but obviously the cleaning can be an issue.
