1st Trimester

What's your blood type?

Did you know it prior to getting pregnant? Will you need rhogam shots?

I am O+. I knew prior to getting pregnant because I've donated blood. I'm glad I don't have to get rhogam shots. One less thing to worry about.

  • I'm A+

My birth mother is O- I think...but my dad is A+

  • I am A- and will need the shot. I knew before pg because I donate blood every now and then.

  • I am AB- (only 1% of the population have it) I have to get the shots but that's ok....
  • I knew I was O-. I had DH get tested at my hospital blood bank, hoping he was negative... no such luck.

    O+, didn't know until i was pg.

    Dont need the RH shot.

  • I did a home blood type test which said I was O+
  • I'm O- and need to get the RH shot.  I had one in March and will need one in December.
  • I am O+!  There seem to be alot of us here :-).  I knew before I was pg because I read it on my birth certificate when I was younger.  I'm a dork, so I remembered that fact. lol

I'm O + as is my DH.  I always told him that if our child is anything other than O I'll have some explaining to do  :)

A- and I got the shot when I miscarried. But we're going to have DH get his blood typed, because his mom thinks he is O-

O + is the most common blood type, I believe.
  • I dunno~

    It's either A or AB...

  • I'm A+ and it drives me nuts that at 28YO Hubby doesn't know his.  He says, I've been told...I just don't remember.  Ugh...men!  I said, what happens if you were in a serious accident and they needed to give you blood!  You couldn't tell them and neither could I.  He just shrugged.  They could test it.  I'd be in the hospital. Time my friend...time you might not have...  Does anyone else think like this or am I a nut?
  • I'm A+ and knew prior to pregnancy due to blood donation.  :)
  • What is this shot? I'm RH- and I know that conceiving with a man who is RH+ can be potentially harmful to my baby (DH IS NOT). Should I calling my OB and telling them I'm RH-?
  • I'm A+, DH is A+ and so is DD. Go figure :-) I found that out after I got PG with DD and found out hers after her birth. DH's is on his dog tags.
  • A+
I found out my first pregnancy when they did blood work.

  • I'm AB- and, luckily, my husband is O-.  We are having him tested again to be sure since he had to ask his parents since he couldn't remember.  We won't need the shot, in this case.

I knew my blood type, as I had open heart surgery years ago and had transfusions.

  • B+.  No rhogam here.

  • I am B+ so don't have to do Rhogam. If you have a neg blood type and are really against the shots, find out if the baby's father is negative too. If he is then you don't need the shot because the risk is your negative antibodies attacking the positive antibodies in the baby.

They should do blood work, but I'd mention something to them just to be safe.

I'm A+, and I'm embarrassed to say I did not know this before they did the blood work
  • I'm O- and had to get the rhogam shot at 9.5 weeks due to bleeding.  Didn't know I had the rarest of bloodtypes...kinda cool
  • DH and I are both A+.  We both knew from bloodwork when we were younger.
  • I'm A-. The rhogam shot was terrible. I couldn't lift my arm for 3 days after because it made my muscles so sore!
  • I dunno yet, still waiting to hear back from the Dr's office.

I got mine in the butt...pain free

  • O+ here, I see there are quite a few of us!

my mom is O- and I remember her complaining about the shots when she was pregnant with my sister.  I'm guessing not fun, glad I don't need them!

Same here.  A shot in my butt/hip area, and it didn't hurt at all.  I'm O-, hubby's B+, and dd is O+.  I got the shot after amnio and after delivery.

If you're Rh- and worried, don't worry.  Any OB or midwife will type your blood, and you won't need the shot for a long time unless you have an accident or severe bleeding.  Don't sweat it--this is like gynecology 101.  :-)

lol have you never donated blood? if you do, they will hound you to donate a lot. they call my dh almost weekly.

  • O+, DH is A-

We are both blood donors... that's why we know.?
