Oh...and I hope my reply didn't come off as snotty...just surprised that your doc wouldn't tell you that right after. Sometimes I think that we're shuffled in and out so quickly. If your discharge continues though for days after, it could be some bloody show or mucus plug especially if you're 38 wks.
Yeah, spotting is normal because the blood vessels in your cervix burst easily. No big deal, especially this close to delivery. If you started bleeding more, they'd probably just go ahead and induce you.
That being said, internal exams aren't necessary unless you're having problems, so I would just refuse them if I were you. Knowing how much you're dilated and effaced will do nothing but get you worked up, and the more internals you have the more chance you have of your water breaking early (early as in before your body is ready to go into labor) and getting infections. Besides the fact that they are uncomfortable.
Re: Spotting after internal- 38 wks
I spot after every internal... at my 36 week appt I spot a whole lot for two days.
I wasn't too worried because the docs said I would.
Thanks so much- he failed to mention this! I figured it would be ok but just wanted to confirm

Good luck!
