What do you think of the name Julie?

I already asked the name board a while ago but again, I trust you girls' opinions more so I figured I'd ask here ;)

Emily was my #1 but it's so popular I'm just not sure.. and Julie is quickly becoming my top name choice. DH also loves it (and we both think we like it more then Julia, with our last name it's a bit rhymey/matchy..) but I'm getting some comments that it's a plain or boring name.

So.. just curious, what is your instant thought to the name Julie? What kind of girl do you picture?

I like it, mostly because I like the nn Jules or Jul. Makes me think of a sweet little princess girl. (Princess in a good way).

I view Julie as a middle aged woman.  I really like Juliet when we were discussing names but DH wanted to know if Romeo was on my boy list.

  • I think of an old-school cheerleader. Perky to the max.

I like Julie, but I like it more as a nn for something like Juliet or Julianne.

  • I think it's really cute, sounds like a happy name.

I think I agree with this.  I love the name Julia.

  • Years ago, I worked with a woman named Julie who was 40 something years old, still lived with her parents and called them 'mommy' and 'daddy'.  She was an odd bird.  So, she sort of ruined the name for me.

I still love Emily,  Popular or not.

  • I have a good friend named Julie.  I've never thought of it for a little girls name, but I think I like it.  If you and DH like it, then go for it!  I didn't realize you were having a girl - congratulations!
  • My closest friend is Julie.  She is an amazing women and mom.  Great name also.

Same here.... and Julie and Kylie are very similar... too much so for me for siblings.

  • how about Julianna?  would that go with your last name.  I think it is so cute for a little girl.  very feminine.
  • I love the name Julie. :) DH didn't really like it, but if he had dd's name probably would have been Julia!

  • I still love Emily the best... :)

  • Congrats on another baby girl!  My mom's name is Julie.  I like it, but do like Julia and Julianna better.  It was a very popular name among my friend's mom's too.  But I do think Julie and Kylie sound a little matchy.
  • I prefer Julie to Emily.  I knew lots of Julies in school and they were all really nice.

The Emilys that I have taught have all been kind of snooty.

  • eh - not a huge fan.  I used to like it but I guess that changed because of my aunt.  She has been very rude/mean lately.

I like Juliet or Julia better.

  • Don't think plain & boring. Think classic and simple. Not everyone needs a fancy, trendy name! ?

I personally wouldn't use it because it reminds me of someone I grew up with. ?But aside from that I do like the name. ??

  • Well, I like it, because my name is Julie. :) so it is interesting to see what other people think of the name.
  • My first cousin is Julie Catherine and I love it.  I think it is a great name.  The ee sounding names sound good with out last name.  She is a very sweet girl.  She was the best when I was on bedrest and after I had DD.  She was also a cheerleader in highschool and on the honor roll if that helps.  She is smart, pretty and nice!  She is going to UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall.

I love that name. My mom actually wanted to name me Julie until she was somehow convinced to name me otherwise. Any Julie's I've ever known have been happy, easy-going, well-liked people.
  • I like the name Julie.  There are a lot of names that are popular right now that end in "a" so I'd lean toward Julie much more than Julia or Julianna, Julie will stand out more.   My niece is Juliet and I think that is my fave of the different versions.
  • I have a bad name/person association with Julie. She was a super slut in school and tried to throw her self at everyones man. Even had sex in a McDonald's bathroom once.

Sooooo...I hear Julie and think slut. Not that your kid would be like that, but that's why I don't like it.

I say go with Emily. I love it.

  • Hmmmm. Honestly I'm not a huge fan. I like Julia and Emily.
  • I also agree that it is matchy-matchy with Kylie.
  • To me, it's a nickname.

My sister's name is Julia and it's great. Not very common, and it suits her very well.
