Parenting after a Loss

BF - still hurts/pinches at 1 month?

I am getting so discouraged with bf. I had some latch issues at first and ended up with some really sore nipples, bruising and a blister. Got all that figured out, and it has gotten much better, but now I feel this painful pinching when he feeds and neither I nor the lc can figure out why since he has a good latch.

I am beginning to dread feeding him, and I get so stressed out about the idea of not bf when I really wanted to do this :(

Has anybody else had issues with it being painful right from the start like this? And how long did it last? I want to keep it up, but just don't know how much longer I can tolerate it.

  • A friend of mine had a similar situation & I think she used a shield to help w/that.  Have you tried that?

    Hope it gets better soon!

  • I'd say breastfeeding was uncomfortable for me until about 6 weeks, and I couldn't tandem feed comfortably until about 12 weeks! But I am SO glad I kept up with it. Its no problem at all now, and I love the closeness. It's a great way to soothe a cranky baby too!

  • Mine went away right around that time...it actually seemed like it was getting worse and I was starting to despair, and then it went away all of a sudden.  Stick it out a little longer, I hope it get better for you too!

  • Mine still hurt from time to time. It's like it goes away for a little while and then comes back. But it's not as bad as it was that first month.

And I get these sharp pains right on the end. It feels like something hard is passing thru the duct. Wierd.
