Success after IF

For those with twins...a ?

I'm nervously awaiting my second u/s on Thursday (I'll be 6w6days).  My last was at 5w3days and we saw 2 sacs that measured totally on track.  Is it odd that I've had such high betas and saw two sacs yet haven't been sick yet?  I have my odd symptoms (MAJOR bloat, occasional queasiness and one morning of dry heaves) but everything I read says that usually twins means earlier and double the morning sickness.  It makes me so paranoid that something is wrong.  Today I am 6w4 days.

Re: For those with twins...a ?

  • Every pregnancy is different. Twin, singleton etc. The amount of sickness or tired you are is not indicative of how healthy your pregnancy is. My sister had twins and had a relatively easy first tri - the second tri is what killed her. And just so you know, I didn't start gagging until late in my 10th week... so your are not out of the woods yet!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I had no morning sickness with my twin pregnancy.  I had one day of nausea that I really think was more of a stomach bug than pg related, but I never threw up and really had a pretty easy pregnancy.  There are many Mom's on the multiples board who did not have m/s either - so it's definitely not true that multiples means double the m/s.  Every pregnancy is different and you may be one of the lucky ones who has no m/s at all - but as the pp said, it's pretty early so you may experience it in a few weeks, so enjoy feeling good while it lasts!
  • As the PPs have said, each pregnancy is different...

I had nausea from about 6 weeks onward, but no actual vomiting and days when I felt perfectly fine.  I have several friends who've had singleton pregnancies with a lot more severe morning sickness.  You really can't tell anything from the symptoms.  I know it's hard to wait for your next appointment after all you've been through with IF.

  • Like PP said every pg is different, but I know for my the morning sickness didn't start until like 7 wks or so and then didn't let up until 13 or 14 wks.  I dont have anything to compare it to in terms of severity, but I just felt like it lasted FOREVER!!!!!

  • I had no morning sickness at all during my pregnancy.  My back started to hurt but that wasn't until my 2nd tri.  Enjoy the lack of symptoms because you don't know when m/s will strike, you still have time.  There was a study showing that symptomless pregnencies are more successful pregnancies.  It's an old wivestale/myth that lack of symptoms is a bad sign.  It's actually a good sign and Dr's usually don't tell us pg women this fact.
  • Like the pp said, all pregnancies are different.  I had some nausea from weeks 7 through 11, but I never actually got 'sick'.  I had a pretty easy pregnancy despite the fact that I was carrying twins.  Good luck at your 2nd u/s :-)

  • I never got much m/s -- only some indigestion.  GL!
  • Thanks ladies- once again...VERY much appreciated!
  • I had nausea after about 6 or 7 weeks, but never any vomiting, and I not only have twins but two girls (and girls supposedly make morning sickness worse). ?Everybody is different. ?At the time, I hadn't heard this, but since then I've heard that your morning sickness tends to be like your mother's. ?My mother never had bad morning sickness, so maybe I take after her. ?Try not to worry about symptoms or a lack thereof. ?Everyone is different. ?
  • I am 11 weeks tomorrow and I haven't had any m/s or nausea:) (yet!!)

  • I didn't have horrible m/s with my twins.  Just nausea.  I never thew up during my pg.  Everyone is different and reacts to the hormone levels differently.  Be thankful for as long as you're feeling well.  I actually felt worse at the end of my pg because of the horrible reflux and heartburn!
  • Congrats, I am 12 weeks and have not vomitted once, have had a bit nausea, that passes pretty quickly in the morning and that's it! I had an u/s today and all looks great! I am thrilled to have missed the morning sickness train!!

My cousin on the other hand, pregnant with one was sick everyday for the first 4 months!
