there are going to be 5000000 more signs than just a broken hymen. i think this is a bit naive to think this is the tell-tale sign that something happened.

Yeah, my husband will be cleaning the remains of the abuser's offending appendage out of my fingernails.
Yes, there should be other signs but this will be the 100% proof that it happened.
uhh no it won't. jar's original post was because she thougth her daughter was born without one (which is possible), and othe rpeople chimed in that theirs broke while playing, during a fall and other possible very much non sexual scenarios.

Not necessarily. Some little girls aren't born with hymens. But I'm sure it would be a sign if you were born with one and then all of a sudden don't have one.

Not quite.....depending on how old the child is at the time. A hymen can be ruptured in many ways, not only through penetration. Gymnastics, horseback riding, a good fall...all sorts of things can happen to rupture a hymen so your 100% proof theory does not really work
In fact, some women in Middle Eastern countries that aren't born with hymens or ruptured the hymen somehow have to somehow fake it on their wedding night by putting a sponge soaked in goat blood. Sad reality.

Yes. But she now knows this b/c she checked. My dd has one and it should not break while she is still a baby for things like playing. So as a baby I would know b/c it is broken.

I am talking about as a baby people, as a baby. She is not going horse back riding or doing gymnastics right now is she? No, didn't think so.
I fell off my bike when I was 5yrs old and broke mine...
how did you even know that? I wasn't aware of what a hymen was until I was a teenager.
My brother pushed me off my bike and he freaked out when I said I was bleeding. There was blood on my bike seat after I had gotten back on to ride home. He told my mom that i was bleeding to death lol! I was traumatized by bleeding from that area and I always remembered it. Years later when I was in school learning sex edu I came home crying and asked my mom if it meant I wasn't a virgin since that had happened and my mom explained in a little more detail what happened to me.
In a young infant it is only one of the signs and no other sign has to be present. We are taught to screen for anything from numerous physical, emotional and or changes in caregiver behavoir. A child can exhibit none, one or all of the signs, and in younger children it is not obvious until they get older.
So yes there can be eleventy billion other signs or none at all.
Around 8% of children will encounter some form of sexual abuse by the time they reach 18.

Are you certain about this? This actually seems extremely low to me considering 1 in 4 women are raped, and IMO, 12 years and up should be included in that group.

Wow.....that statistic scares me.
Yeah no schnizt.
I was probably more freaked out and noticed it because I was finishing my child abuse rotation.

I just have a hard time believing its that low.?
