Ok, I'm down to 3 nursing sessions per day with my DS. First thing in the morning, before his afternoon nap and at bed.
I'm ready to drop another nursing session. He nurses to sleep or almost to sleep for his afternoon nap most days.
Anyhow, he does not drink much liquid from a cup. He will drink some juice and some water from his sippys but currently spits out the milk if it is in a cup, even if it is breastmilk.
Any ideas on how to convince him to drop another nursing session? I'd love to drop the one before his nap, but I'm thinking he needs thos fluids. I don't think he'll take a cup at naptime.
I'm wanting to nurse first thing in the morning at at bedtime for a little while longer. I could do without the bedtime one and just do morning, but I don't want to push him too quickly. Thanks!
Re: Need help with weaning 12 month BF baby to cup!
Have you tried different types of cups (different spouts) and varying the temp of the milk? ?I borrowed different cups from friends until I found a spout my DD would take. ?Also, when I introduced cows milk, she wouldn't take it cold, only room temp.?
We were in a similar situation and my husband & I were planning a weekend trip away for our anniversary. ?I tried to get DS to take milk (any milk - mine, cow's, goat's) from a cup but he refused. ?He would drink water. ?We never offered juice.
My pediatrician, my husband, and my mom (who was watching DS while we were gone) all assured me he'd drink from the cup when that was his only option. ?So I reluctantly left plenty of breastmilk and goat's milk in the fridge and went on our trip.
When we got back, my mom reported that he had taken a full cup of breastmilk each morning and night (when he normally nursed) and some goat's milk from his cup with each meal. ?She said the first night he seemed a little confused, but he eventually drank it. ?After that, no problems.?
And now that my son has decided to drink the milk from his cup, he'll take it from me just fine. ??
Could someone else offer him the milk in a cup besides you? ?Maybe a babysitter, or DH, while you are out of the house? ?Maybe (like my DS) he'd take it if you were unavailable to nurse.
I am in this boat and I am hoping and praying dd will take a cup from IL's why we are gone for 3 days!
