When do you send Birth Annoucements?

Wondering when you all will be sending out your birth announcements?

I have my picked out on Shutterfly and just need the little guy to get here and get a picture for it.  I was planning on have newborn pictures taken around 2-3 weeks, as that's when I heard a good time to do those was.  So do I wait until those are done and can be used on the card before sending out the annoucements?  He would be at least a month old at that point. 

For those of you doing annoucnements with pictures, what are you doing?  Taking your own and using it or waiting for a professional pic?

    We are going to use our own pictures because we want them sent out ASAP.

    I am hoping to get some good shots ourselves so that we can send them out sooner.  If not, I will get some prof. shots around 2-3 weeks.

    We're having newborn photos done, but the one(s) on the announcements will probably have to be our own for copyright reasons to order online.  We'll probably do the photos around the same time as the newborn photos, after at least a week from birth so that the "blotchiness" fades, etc.

    We're having NB pics done by a professional and will likely be ordering the announcements through her. I think this will end up meaning we send them out when the baby is about 6 weeks old or so.

    I will take the professional picture...I used to work as a photographer and have a good camera. our announcements are designed and ready for print. We wll send them out in the first week or two. I also already labeled all of the 200 envelopes with the addresses and stamps so all we have to do is stuff them with the 5x7 announcement card.
