Stay at Home Moms

1st Time SAHM

I am due in October and will be staying home with the baby for at least a year. Do you ladies have any tips or suggestions for someone who will be staying at home for the first time. This will also be my first child. I know I still have a few months- but someone just posted on 2nd Tri about this- so it got me thinking.

Re: 1st Time SAHM

  • Oh I just saw a post below about this same subject- oops. I'll check out that thread.

  • I recognize you from 2nd tri!  Nice to see you over here too.

My only advice is that it is not an easy first couple months.  It is really hard to figure out your LO in terms of schedule and feeding, etc.  It seems as soon as you're ready to get out the door for some fresh air, you have to start the feeding/diapering all over again. And you'll probably make it to 4:00 p.m. and realize you haven't eaten anything but a half a cracker all day.

That being said, it can only get easier right?!  It does get a lot easier and you start to feel human again eventually.  Just rely on friends, family and other SAHM to help you out!

she's right.  the first couple months are hard.  period.  you will be at baby's beck and call.  BUT, it does get better and easier and you'll probably find yourself loving staying home.

  • Ditto what everyone else said.  And you will miss adult interaction.  Don't be afraid to get out with the baby when you feel comfortable.  You will be amazed at what a 30 minute walk around Target will do for you.  Sometimes you may feel unappreciated or guilty about SAH.  I constantly felt guilty for not contributing financially to our household, but I keep reminding myself about the money we are saving by not putting DD in daycare, and all of the little moments I would have missed that no paycheck can buy.  Enjoy every moment.
