How much do you talk to your baby and

Re: How much do you talk to your baby and

  • When I am doing things around the house I explain what I am doing, when I change him or change his clothes I will talk to him.. tell him his diaper is stinky or wet, that I have a cute outfit for him to wear, etc.

That is about it.  I honestly stuggle with this and find it unrewarding to talk to someoene that doesn't respond (my LO is only a month old) so I have to force myself to do it.

  • Just about any time that DS is awake I'm talking to him.  I usually talk to him about what we are doing...feeding...changing a diaper...getting dressed...taking a bath...etc.  I also sing to him a lot since that is when he smiles most often!!
  • Thanks.  My husband is so good at it, but I feel weird and don't know what to say.
  • I'm alot better at the talking thing than the singing thing. I talk to him about how cute he is, whatever we are doing, going to do and I ask him what he's trying to say to me when he coos. I also make up stories about what he coos about.
  • I talk to him every time he is awake, except during night feedings. We talk about the day and what we are doing, we talk about the weather, just random stuff. We do a lot of singing and I read him a couple of books a day. He really likes the colorful pages.

It helps them identify your voice out of a crowd (which happened this past weekend - we were in a room of people all yammering and when I would talk DS would look around to find me even though he was in DH's lap). Also, research shows that if you don't do baby-talk but use full sentences kids tend to have a larger vocab quicker.

  • I talk to her but not all day for every minute. But we'll have conversations (ok so they are a little one sided, lol) I normally tell her how cute she is, and ask her which outfit she wants to wear. Then I will start talking for her and respond to my questions that I ask her, lol. We spend a little too much time alone....

  • I talk to him all the time, explaining things that I'm doing. ?I felt funny doing it with my first but it really does pay off. ?His comprehension was so high by the time he was around a year, eventhough he couldn't tell me much I could give him 3 step instructions and he would follow them easily.
