Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If you were induced...

can you please give a brief run-down of how it went?

How far along in your pregnancy were you?

How long were you in labor?

Did you get an epi?

Pitocin?

Outcome? - Vaginal delivery, c-section...

I have an induction scheduled for 41w1d (Sunday) and I am just looking to see how others did :) Thank you so much!

  • Induced at 39 wks 3 days.  Labor lasted 9 hours, vaginal delivery.  Had an Epi at 4 1/2 cm after being 2 1/2 when I first got there.  Perfect labor, tough delivery due to doctor error.   I would do it all over again!

     Good luck with yours!

  • I was induced at 41w2d. Had no progress prior so I was not really favorable. Cervidil overnight only got me to a fingertip. They started pitocin the next morning and had a c-section after I still never went into labor.  Didn't need an epi because the pitocin didn't really do anything but had a spinal for the c-section.  The c-section wasn't bad at all IMO.

    Good luck!

  • Induction 1:

    41 weeks, 9 days

about 9am until 6pm when we decided it wasn't working

    No

    Yes (Pitocin = getting induced)

Outcome - failed induction. We could start cervidil that night and try again the next day or go home. We chose to go home.

    Induction 2:

    41 weeks, 11 days

Cervidil the night before, pitocin at 9, I could feel contractions at noon, I could really feel them at 1, water broke at 2, epi at 5, dialated to 10 at 7, started pushing at about 7:45, baby came at 10:20.

    Epi - yes

    Pitocin - yes

    Outcome - vaginal, healthy baby

  • I was induced at 38 weeks for pre-e.

I was a about 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. Baby was sky high.

I was given Cervidil the night before.

8:30 AM, OB broke my water

    9:30 AM, Started pitocin

    12:30 PM, Dose of stadol

3:45 PM, DS was born after a couple of pushes

    No epi

    Piece of cake

  • 40w 1d

I don't know when 'labor' starts?? But I was there over 24 hours before giving birth.

I got an epi, they missed :(  I was only at a 4 so I felt it and them moving it around, taping on my spine. Taking it out, putting it back in and again the moving and tapping!! But after all that Jazz... felt fine!

Had pitocin after the epidural, and it still took forever.

Had a vaginal delivery, felt just a little pressure, like you have to REALLY REALLY poop.

Took less than 30 minutes to push her out.

  • I was induced one day after my EDD because of severe rib pain.  I went in in the morning and they started the pitocin around 2pm.  I got an epi at 5pm and another at 7pm (the first one was put in the wrong spot and wore off) and started pushing at 9pm.  My LO was born at 10:34pm.  The delivery was great...no tearing or anything.  I dialated about 1 cm an hour so it was a slow, regulated process, which was good.

    Good luck to you!

  • How far along in your pregnancy were you? 40 w./on my due date; already had some progress

How long were you in labor? overnight if you count the Cervidil; from morning time once Pit started and water broken, 5 and 1/2 hours or so

Did you get an epi? two and half hours after Pit started was all I could handle -- yesI went from something like 3 cm dilated to fully dilated and ready to push within a half hour of getting the epi though, and the pain, though somewhat numbed, came back at that point

    Pitocin? yes

Outcome? - Vaginal delivery, c-section... vaginal; 2nd degree tear

I have my whole story in my blog if you are interested.

I was 40wks 4 days when i was induced, they gave me Pitocin to get things going. I got an epidural and labor only lasted 6 hours from the time i got the Pitocin. I had a vaginal delivery. GL to you!!
  • How far along in your pregnancy were you? 41 weeks

How long were you in labor? Admitted into the hospital on Wed, April 1st @ 4pm.  Given miso pill and water balloon was inserted.  Pit began on Thur, April 2nd @ 8am

Did you get an epi? Yes.  On Thur, April 2nd @ 5pm after having contractions all day and only dilating to 5cm.

Outcome? On Fri, April 3rd @ 1 am my OB told me that I was still only 5 cm dilated and that they needed to perform a c-section in order to get the baby out.  By this point I was so exhausted that I didn't mind having the c-section.  Finally at 1:54 am my DS was born.

Even though my labor was long and the results were not ideally what I wanted, I would do it again!!  Best of luck to you!!

In theory, sometimes it's enough, supposedly, to break bag of waters and/or use Cervidil.

  • How far along in your pregnancy were you? 36 weeks (Had gallbladder attacks and 30 gallstones)

How long were you in labor? Started at 9am and delivered at 2:32pm... Pushed for about 15-20 min.

Did you get an epi? Tried 4 times... none for me!  It wasnt that bad!

    Pitocin? Yes

Outcome?    A perfectly healthy 7lb 1oz baby boy by Vaginal delivery

  • I was induced with #2 at 41 wks, and it was my best labor and delivery experience. They started the Pitocin just before I got the epidural, and so I was not in any pain at that time. I was dilated some at this point, but they would not break my water until I had antibiotics due to the group B strep. My labor was a complete breeze as I felt really nothing as far as contractions and then she broke my water and baby was born about 2hrs later. So all in all I was in labor and delivered in about 6hrs. I had Pitocin with my first and I will never labor again without an epidural. I waited too long with him for the epidural and this time she mentioned Pitocin and I said I want the epidural now. That was just me though. I went in the first time with no real plan, but to see how things went and go from there. I pushed 20min this time and she came out weighing 10 lb 4oz. They knew she was big at 38wks and still made me go that long. She had no problems being that big as far as being delivered. In fact its strange, but she was much easier than my first. Good luck to you!!

  • I was induced at 39w6d. I was already at 3cm when i went in at 8pm, they started pitocin. I quickly progressed to 5cm by some time in the middle of the night and got an epi. It stalled my labor. I was at 5 the next morning when the doctor did her walk thru's. Was stuck at 5cm until lunch, then all of a sudden got to 8cm within a hour. Got to 10cm by 4pm but the baby wasn't coming down at all. They cranked up pitocin to increase contraction intensity and it pushed the baby down - except his crown wasn't facing down. He was coming face first, which ended in an emergecy C.

Epi was great bc i felt nothing but I do believe i would have progressed faster without it.

  • I was induced at 40 weeks due to size. Got cervidil at night and pitocin in the morning which started contractions. Epi at 4 cm and water was broken just before that. Laboured for 12 hours only reaching 7 cm and not progressing any more. Had c section at 7:30 pm. He was big and sunny side up.

Soon to celebrate the day we met, even if the day before marks when we said goodbye.
  • 41w 6d... went in at 6am at 3cm dilated, pitocin started at 7am.  whole lotta sitting around and super mild contrax until 5pm when they broke water.  then about an hour of wicked contrax before the epi (waitied 30 mins for the anesthesiologist to get there and it took 30 mins to get the epi in bw contrax and start working).  then nighty night time for me until about 10pm when the epi started wearing off, got a boost and was checked and found to be 100%.  started pushing a little after 11pm (had to wait for doc to get there) and baby was here just before 1am via vaginal delivery.

all in all, not a bad experience at all, although if i do it again, i will ask for the epi before they break my water :-)

     good luck!

can you please give a brief run-down of how it went?

How far along in your pregnancy were you? 39w4d

How long were you in labor? Arrived at 8p, cytotec at about 9p, pitocin at 6a, OB broke water at 7a, epidural at noon, started pushing at 2:30ish, baby at 4:51p.

Did you get an epi? Yes

    Pitocin? Yes at 6a.

    Outcome? - Vaginal delivery, c-section...

I have an induction scheduled for 41w1d (Sunday) and I am just looking to see how others did :) Thank you so much!

  • I was 39wks and 4days. My doc was worried the baby was getting 2 big for me.

I was only dialated at 1cm so they started the pitocen and did that balloon thing and got me to 4cm. When it came out I got an epi but I only dialated to 5cm total.

I was in labor for 8hours b4 we decided to go for a c-section. Of course, my body didn't want to cooperate and wouldn't get numb enough so they had to put me to sleep.

I woke up 2.5 hours after she was born. It really wasn't that bad. I forgot about everything when I got to see her perfect little face!

  • I ended up being induced at 40 weeks and 2 days after my water broke and nothing was happening for over 24 hours. They started pitocin around 11am and DS was born vaginally at 12:29am (so 13.5 hours it took). I did request an epi at 7.5cm (arrived with 2cm to the hospital), although I did not plan on it (I also planned on a natural, not induced birth, but I guess 'plans' don't always become reality).

At the end of the day, I'm very happy with everything  because DS was born healthy! On the other hand, the entire experience did not go at all how I wanted it to go. One piece of advice - make sure you talk to the doctor and the nurse and tell them that you don't want them to increase the dose of pitocin every 15 minutes (which most of them do). There's no need for that, but a lot of doctors/nurses want to 'speed the process along' (ok - is 13 hours really "speedy"?), so they increase the dose without waiting to see how your body reacts. The side effect of being pumped up full of that stuff is something I experienced: once DS was born, my uteris wouldn't contract back, so I kept bleeding and lost a lot of blood. They had to do all sort of stuff to stop it, and then I couldn't walk for 24 hours after labor. Not fun. So - just be as informed and as in control as you can be, ok? I'm sure everything will go wonderful for you - it's a very exciting time! Good luck!

  • with DD-I was induced 40wks 3 days with pitocin and broke my water...had epi...and was in labor 6 hours....vaginal delivery no stitches...pretty easy

with DS I was induced 39 wks 5 days with pitocin and broke my water..had epi, but it didn't work...was given a spinal...was in labor 5 1/2 hours...vaginal delivery no stitches.  Pretty easy except I had a spinal headache from the spinal I had, I was pretty miserable.

  • Induced at 41 weeks exactly

In labor for 35 hours- 5 hours pushing.

Epidural was the best thing in the world!  Pitocin was fine until they broke my water at 2ish cm 90% when cntrxns got so bad I couldn't breathe through them.

Outcome- vaginal delivery, perfect baby other than her vaccum head- and she was 9 lbs 6 oz- which is probably why it took so freaking long!  I was really lucky because had they any idea how big she was I'd have been pushed harder towards csection.

Good luck!  Sleep every minute until then!  Eat lots before too!  I was FAMISHED!

  • I was induced 2cm 70% effaced, doc broke my water started the pitocin drip, got epi at 4 cm. Labor was 5 hrs DD is great!!
  • I was 41w1d.  Started pitocin and labored for 18 hours (thanks to the epi I never really felt a thing).  Only got to 4cm, even after they broke my water.  Ended up with a c-section and a beautiful little guy!

  • I was induced at 41wk 2 days.  Started with cervidil at 7pm.  Water broke around 2am.  Lots of contractions through the night.  In the morning got pitocin and then an epi an hour or so later.  Was only dilated to 3cm at that point.  8 hours of pitocin later and I was still only 3cm.  Baby wasnt dropping at all.  Deemed I had a narrow pelvis and ended up with a c/s.
  • My water broke and I never got contractions so they induced me.  I was 39w 1d.  The pitocin started around 5pm, I finally caved around 1 am and got the epidural.  My baby was born at 11:48 am.

At some point after I got the epidural, they had to come turn down the pitocin because my baby's heartrate decelerated ~ at that point I saw an emergency c-section looming in my future ~ but fortunately, my baby recovered and I was able to deliver vaginally.

I am really anti-induction; I was not pleased that I felt forced into that situation.  But, all in all, it went pretty well and I suppose I should be thankful for modern medicine because it could have been dangerous for my baby to wait any longer than I did to get her out since my water had broken.

  • My induction went very well...I was REALLY nervous about it since they told me it might not work.  I went in at 41w2d at 3cm and 90%.

They started pitocin at 8AM.  I did end up having an epidural, which I wasn't planning on doing.  The contractions were really bad...I'm not going to lie!  Everyone's pain tolerance is different though.

I was in labor for 8 hours.  I had my daughter vaginally at exactly 4:00 PM with 20 min. of pushing!

    Good Luck!

  • I was induced at 37 weeks exactly due to tachycardia and high bp (not pre-e..it was weird).

I went in on a Monday they started cervadil on Tuesday at 2:30 in the afternoon and pitocin at 3:30am on Wednesday.

I was technically in labor for 16 1/2 hours.

Gave me the epidural when I was dialated at 2 because my contractions were coming so strong and one on top of the other.  I had no time in between.

I had a vaginal delivery.  I only pushed for about 10 minutes when they got the forceps and got him out because of my pulse being so high.

Induction isn't ideal, but I know that if I had gone over my due date I would be all about it!  Yes, the pitocin sucks and I can't imagine having "pitocin labor" without an epidural.  Just remember that there is a reward afterwards!!!  Good luck!

Same here except I was 40 weeks 6 days and had absolutely no progress after 9 hours of cervidil and 6 hours of pitocin.

  • I was induced 2 days before my EDD because of PIH. I was in labor 16 hours, did some pushing, but ended up needing a c/s. DD got irregular h/b with every push and my pulse was thru the roof.

They started my Pitocin around 3:30pm, my water broke on it's own around 6:30pm. I got an epi sometime in the middle of the night and had DD 7:10am the next morning.

  • I was induced 1 week after I pPROM'ed. After 9 hours of pit I had no progress. They inserted cervadil over night which led to more massive contrax. It effaced me fully. I received more pit and an epi the next day- the epi was the biggest mistake of my life. I have nerve damage from it and it was awful while I had it- (uneven, horrendous). ?She was born at 4pm that day- we started the pit at 11 and the epi at noon. Vaginal.

Be your own advocate. If you aren't ready to give birth it takes more than 1 day of pit on average- don't let them give you a c section unless you medically need one at that point- your oxytocin receptors need a chance to kick in. ?

  • I was 10 days overdue and my induction went really well.  I was not dialated or effaced so they gave me Cervadil overnight which got me to about 4 cm, then they started the Pitocin at 8am, I pushed for an hour and a half and was able to have the vaginal delivery that I wanted (I was scared prior to the induction that I would end up with a c/s).  The pushing was hard, but the epi made it totally do-able.  I would absolutely do it all over again.  Good luck!

    39w4d but I was at 3.5cm for 3 weeks.

    9 hours

    Did you get an epi?

    Yep.

    Pitocin?

    Yep.

    Outcome? - Vaginal delivery, c-section...

Vaginal- 3 pushes- easy as could be :)

  • I was induced at 39 weeks due to gestational diabetes. They did pitocin and broke my water. I labored for 13 hours and had very little progress. They discovered my DS was stuck, so I ended up having a c-section. I did get an epidural after about 9 hours into labor. I would have had to have one anyways for the c-section. Good luck! I guess you won't be having a May baby afterall. I didn't either. ;)

  • I was 40 weeks. We started pitocin at 8am and baby was born at 10:14pm. I got an epi at 5pm and started pushing just after 8pm. By the time I was pushing there was no more pitocin being given. I was going on my own.

I had an amazing experience with a vaginal birth :)?

  • How far along in your pregnancy were you? 38w 1d, with severe edema

How long were you in labor? Started pit at 7:15am (2cm & 75% effaced) by 1:30pm I was at 7cm... cleared the room at 2:40pm, did a few test pushes with the nurse then i was told to breathe through the contractions and wait for the doc. Dr showed up at 3:00 and we delivered at 3:10pm.

Did you get an epi? YES, was asking for it around 9:15 but Dr. Tingle (no joke on the Dr's name) get it going until 10:15am I was 4th on the request list

Pitocin? Yes, started at 7:15am at 6mlph (according to the nurse this is high compared with other doctor's orders) highest ml/h was 18 at one point.

Outcome?    A perfectly healthy 8lb 3oz baby boy by Vaginal delivery

I would do it all over in a heartbeat, it was far easier than I ever imagined. The only down side was the uncontrollable shaking I had after delivery, but after an hour or so this went away.
