Parenting after a Loss

Anyone not introducing juice for awhile?

I don't plan on giving DD juice for quite some time. My pedi actually prefers that her patients dont due to the calorie and sugar content. DD likes water so I figure there is no reason for juice at this point.

When did you or do you plan on giving DC juice?

Re: Anyone not introducing juice for awhile?

  • I don't think we started it until she was around 12 months, but she wasn't a huge fan right away so we offered her milk and water more than anything else.

  • The only time DD gets juice is when she's having issues with constipation. Otherwise, we don't plan to give it to her for several years.

  • I've only given her 1 ounce of prune juice mixed with 1 oz water when she hasn't pooped in a day or so... just to get the "machine" going...
  • I am not planning on giving Michael juice for at least a year.

Question for you - how did you get Hailey to drink water?  Michael just lets it dribble out of his mouth when I give him a sippy cup.

  • We didn't want to until much later, but same as pp's...we have to every now and then for constipation issues.  He gets a tiny bit every day so that he will take his meds too.
  • We didn't start giving DD water until around 10 months... and only because FIL was being a pain about it (long story) and kept insisting on he give her water.

We started with very very watered down apple juice around 11 months.

I completely agree with your pedi (mine is the same way). DD is still nursing, so as long as I'm eating & drinking enough, she should be good without lots of extra.

She did this primarily when first learning to drink from a sippy. She still does it with the sippy actually but not as much. I wouldnt say she has mastered it yet. However, she LOVES drinking it from our water bottles. She actually swallows more this way then the sippy! Go figure!

  • I will probably try not to, although maybe unsweetened 100% juice mixed with water would be okay.

  • DD doesn't like water yet, but we are hoping she starts to at some point.

We give DD juice medicinally, rather than as a beverage.  She used to need diluted prune juice daily for constipation, but she doesn't need it that frequently anymore.  We also gave her very diluted white grape juice when she had a 103+ fever for a couple of days...she didn't want formula and would not touch Pedialyte or plain water.  We needed to get fluids into her somehow.

In general, juice (that will be diluted) is going to be an occasional treat once she's older.  Not sure when it will be introduced that way.  My husband and I don't drink juice so it's not something she'd see us drinking.

  • I would NOT have except for the occasional prune juice we have to give her to get her to poop. Other than that, I plan on avoiding juice.
  • We aren't.  We just don't feel there's a need for it.
  • We aren't. ?Pedi said not to give juice since it had little nutritional value and lots of sugar.

I don't know when we will do it, but at least after 12 months.

  • I'd like to not give Emma juice at all- unless for medicinal purposes as listed above.

  • Nope we're not either. DD loves water and has never had any issues with constipation so I see no reason for juice at this point.
