Do you still rock your LO before bed?

I do. Just curious if everyone else still does ...

Re: Do you still rock your LO before bed?

  • We do but it is more for us because we dont get to see him all day. DH and I alternate nights and it is nice quiet time spent with DS.
  • Loading the player...
  • I rock him when he first wakes up (when he's at his calmest).  And I still sing him a lullaby before I put him down.
  • DH holds DS until he goes to sleep.

  • I attempt to but DS does not always let me.  Sometimes on a rare night he will let DH or I rock him but it's becoming more and more rare.  He is starting to sit still long enough for a book at bedtime so I still get my cuddle time.
  • Some nights, other nights she just wants me to put her to bed and leave her be!

  • We don't rock before bed.  Instead, Ben and DH hang out on our bed until Ben falls asleep and then DH carries him into his room and puts him into his crib.

We do rock to sleep for naps though.

  • Yep, and I will keep doing it until he doesn't let me anymore.  I love that time of my day and when he reaches up to put his hand on my cheek as he falls asleep. *sniff*  Getting a little teary-eyed now!
  • Yep!  Actually I just started recently.  I used to nurse DD right before bed.  But since I weaned, I still wanted some snuggle time with her.  DH reads to her and then I rock her and sing to her.  I LOVE it! She is so snuggly!  She usually doesnt fall asleep completely, so she's still going to sleep on her own. But we both enjoy it so I have no intentions of stopping until she no longer wants it.  It's my favorite part of the day!

  • We never did. It's not necessary for DS. He's not very cuddly.?

  • Yeah, we rock while he nurses and I read him a story.
  • I'm jealous of everyone who can still rock. DD will sit still for books but as soon as the last book is closed she wiggles until she's off the chair. I miss snuggly time.
  • Depends on the night, some nights we do, so nights we don't.
  • Yes, I'm still in the process of weaning her though (down to just her bedtime nursing).  But after weaning, I hope to keep rocking her for a bit before bed.

  • We cuddle but she rarely lets me rock her. :( I lay her down in my arms and if she's really tired she'll nod off there, but if not she'll point to her bed and say "night night" :(

We never did, either. DS completely freaks out if DH or I try to cuddle with him or rock him. He's never been a cuddly baby, which has always made me sad.

  • I do, DS won't go to sleep otherwise. I don't mind it though, I like that time with him.

  • I do while I am reading him his bedtime story.
  • Not at naptime, just before she goes to bed for the night (or her approximation of a night--usually ends anywhere from 1a-3a LOL)

  • I don't. We did ferber at 6.5mos and chose to stop doing it then.

  • Yes, it's the only way DS falls to sleep.
  • No. I hold him in the glider while he drinks his last sippy of milk and we say his prayers, then I put him in the crib.

  • Yup. Before bedtime and naps. Books, then rocking while I sing a little bit.?

She almost never falls asleep while rocking anymore, though. ?

  • Nope :( Ds has never been a big cuddler. When hes ready for bed he just wants to be put in his crib. I wish he would let me though
  • I wish he would, but now he gets him bedtime milk, brushes teeth and off to his crib.  If I try he wiggles out.

  • I am also really jealous of the mommies that still get to rock their LO to bed. Crying  DD stopped letting me rock her awhile ago.  If I try, she squirms, kicks, and screams.  She does let me hold her in the glider while DH reads her a bedtime story and we say prayers, but after that she points to the crib and tells us "night-night".
  • Yes. I guess the grass is always greener. I would give my right arm for a child that just wants to be put in his crib! I love the cuddle time but fear I'll be driving to his college to rock him to sleep everynight ;)

Exactly this.  Some nights he lets me cuddle him and rock him for a bit while I sing him a song - other nights he's all squirmy and just wants to be put down to bed.

ETA: I don't rock him to sleep though - he won't sit still that long.  I rock for a little while and we snuggle, but he goes to sleep on his own after I put him down

  • No, she hasn't liked being rocked since she was 6 months old.  At bedtime we hold her until she is asleep or almost asleep, then put her in her crib.  For naps I just read her a couple of books and put her in the crib awake.
  • I rock to sleep for naps and DH does for bedtime.  Some days I wish we didn't have to, some days I wouldn't have it any other way... that's how it goes.
  • Nope-- we have a routine, which is bottle, bath, Goodnight Moon, lotion up, then Goodnight Gorilla, then down to sleep! DH cuddles with him during the last book, but we wanted him to be able to put himself to sleep early on.

I was thinking the same exact thing.

  • No, he doesn't want me too anymore.
  • Only when there are extenuating circumstances.  He generally likes his personal space when he's going to sleep.

I rocked him to sleep tonight because he was screaming.  I think the teething/diaper rash combo was just too much for him.

  • Yes, my husband puts her to bed and we still rock her.  We even still bottle before bed.  Maybe we're a little behind, but I figure someday she will grow up and not want us to rock her anymore.  I don't rock her to sleep for naps, she will usually fall asleep in my arms.  Her babysitter still rocks her at naptime.

  • I don't rock her to sleep, but we cuddle in the chair and turn on her music and rock for the first song, just as a wind down before bed.  And it's selfish..I LOVE this time  :)

  • I think DD is finally not allowing me to rock her anymore.  Sad  But, I guess at 19 months, she's a big girl now!  She's not very cuddly normally, so I really enjoyed rocking her and singing to her and then putting her in her crib drowsy but awake.  Now, I start rocking, but she points to her crib and says "down."  So that's that, I guess!
