No, unfortunately it's also very real. My SIL is an RN in the maternity ward. And she's had more than a few over the years where you "say" the dash. It might have started out as an urban legend... but it caught on!
That name will be great for her future job at a strip club!
We have a student whose name is La--a. And it's pronounced La-dash-a. Yes, the dash is spoken. And the mom was upset because no one at the school could say her daughter's name right the first time. Ya think?
