wwyd: unpatient husband?

What would you do in this situation?  My husband isn't really patient with the baby when the baby is upset (un-upset, they can play together and hang out for hours) but when the baby frustrates him, he starts getting frustrated back.  I've told him to take a few breaths, step back, and then deal with the situation but he freaks out and you can hear the tension in his voice and he drops f boms or j.c.  (Never at the baby but just in frustration).  Every time I hear him drop a cuss word or a j.c. I mention it to him and that just frustrates him more.  I asked him what we can do to fix this situation because I would prefer my child's first word not be 'God dammit."  He's a good dad otherwise :)

  • he definitely needs to give himself a time out.  you don't want your baby to grow up realizing, when i get upset it pisses dad off.  has he read any parenting books?  gone to any classes?  even like a music or play class where he can see other parents coping with fussiness.

  • I usually reach my boiling point before DH does. He's really good about stepping in & helping out. We also talk about it after the situation is solved.

  • Have him watch Happiest Toddler on the Block.  It may give him a solution as to what he needs to do instead.
